oh, didn't know that was a thing. oops
She wasn't a Russian woman when it comes to which country she was skating for! But eh, "honorary" Russian woman because she trained with Eteri, much like Morisi Kvitelashvili

(She was also born in Moscow)

I thought we wouldn't be allowed to bring that to this thread, so I didn't lol.
Surely we are allowed to discuss Russian women that competes for another country??? They are Russians after all and have Russian skating history.

And I will do that right now:
So happy to see Gubanova at Finlandia Trophy. The competition will be fierce and she will probably have nothing to do with the top 5, but with a good score we might see her at the Olympics! (Georgia has one spot and Urushadze has only produced 142 points so far this season).

Any news on the Talalaikina transfer to Italy? It looks for now as if it has backfired and that the RusFed won't release her...yet.

They would be classified under the "European Women" thread which doesn't exist this season. But either way, the direction of the thread is not my issue, lol.

Yes I know. But e.g. Gubanova and Talalaikina has been a part of this thread's discussion for years and years as they have been part of the Russian Women. Not discussing them now would feel strange to me. The reason they changed/trying to change country is part of the Russian Ladies situation, so I feel they are still important news to this thread. And their future results also has an impact on whether RusFed's descision to let them leave was right or not, so in a way that is still Russian news. But that's just my opinion.

That's a new one. Tuktamysheva and Kolyada both are directly qualified for Nationals so they don't need to go to the Russian Cup.

Wouldn't it be better to concentrate on international events?
Mishin's students tend to go to a lot of competitions. It seems to work for them.

She actually moved to Italy. You can see her training in Egna in her current instastory. Not sure if she has been officially released though.

One thing I’m not liking is the excuses for Trusova’s not so good performance during the weekend.

Once she didn’t pull out of the event, all the jet lag, fatigue, couldn’t acclimate, was too soon to skate after the test skates, and any or all other excuses become invalid.

It especially demeans the skater in second place that was only a few points from winning.

In my book, once you take the ice, you are good enough to compete and the excuses end.

Being in 2 different countries in one week is part of an athlete’s life.

If you want to be seen as an upper echelon champion, you need to be able to block all the above out. Anna became Russian champion after fever and coughing up a lung or 2 a day earlier, so jet lag isn’t an excuse that holds any water.

That being said, it’s not the end of the world this early, but that’s another official competition where she is a gold medalist in practice but mucks up the competition proper.

I think all of us want to see an official competition where she hits all 5 quads so we can see what a rare air score that computes to.

She should never have sent stateside for an unimportant event when coronavirus is running wild again in America. Evgenia got sick last year Anna got sick Aliona and many other Russian skaters took ill last year. I don't see a reason to send one of their top skaters to a country that is having an issue with part 2 of Coronavirus.

Maybe they should go back to 4 quads in the free and then when Saaha starts to nail that then think about 5 again.

They never should have sent her is definitely a legitimate gripe.

Hindsight being 20/20, nothing was gained short term and a little was lost. Well, unless she really wanted to add this title to her trophy cabinet. Which ended up becoming a derby out of nowhere. Haha

That three-four-five quads nonsense just isn't valid when the skater fails her very first quad. Should she go with three quads dismissing the first two? Adding more rotations, steps?
The program is designed for the specific set of elements with very limited options. Combo here, single jump there and again.
The program is great. The execution may be done (see the practices).
And for the in-combat mode she must do it only once. In February.
Ok, there's still a long way to survive till February, but the full combat mode isn't necessary.

Agreed.

I could understand if sasha went to Estonia or Finland or Austria for a competition but not all the way across the Atlantic Ocean. Sasha is not ill she is not injured and I imagine she will get a lot better from here on out. But seeing her score only 216 points was shocking even though we know she can be hit-or-miss.

I don't think it's excuses. Fans are worried, and worried fans will provide diagnoses about why their favorite did poorly. Either way, I didn't find it belittling to Park.

Trusova needs to watch Les Miserables, soon.

I had a dream my life would be
So different from this hell I'm living
So different now from what it seemed
Now life has killed the dream I dreamed

A bit harsh, but I kinda agree!

Fair enough. But she isn’t a big game player yet should be where the diagnosis should lean to a my opinion.

Looks like a gazillion rubles in practice but a gazillion times less than that when the director yells “action.”

That has been the case when she wasn’t getting on planes or in 2 countries in one week too.

I will say it again. I want her to succeed. Who doesn’t want to watch history? She got everyone excited 2 weeks ago. She teased us with a 5 quad landed program, now I have been spoiled and want her to do it. Haha
