I surmise the quarantine is just for nonvaxxed adults who are not competitors. I bet all three Russian ladies will be at official practice in morning.
I hope you are right. All the Russians are "nonvaxxed" as our Sputnik-V is not recognized. Practice without a coach is not good but it is still much better than no practice at all.

Just my 2 cents: Canada is one of the more bureaucratic countries I've lived in. Their immigration authorities can be extremely sluggish merely out of pure incompetence, especially during the pandemic. Also, speaking from personal experience, it's almost impossible to communicate with an actual human during this process if you run into trouble (and I'm not from any geopolitical rival country of Canada).

Basically, for anyone who isn't a tourist, permanent resident, or at imminent risk of death, queuing is unavoidable. Figure skating is definitely low on the list of grounds to appeal for expedited processing. Anyway, my sympathies to the Russian team, IRCC sucks.

You don't understand? I can explain. Russian FED did everything according to a normal procedure. They could not get to Canada much in advance. The entry papers were delayed. The team has just arrived and it is Wednesday already. According to the Russian coach they are put into 3 day quarantinin their rooms. This means that they are going to miss practice. Russian skaters if nothing is changed will be in a very unfavorable situation vs. the others. I just hope that they will find extra strength and will crush the competition despite all this nonsense. If Canada same as France cannot provide equal terms to all athletes they should not organize international competitions.
They should not be allowed to have these events in the future if they can't get their acts together. The world is watching. Or maybe not which is why this happens.

Sam does the same thing happen when International athletes come to Moscow to skate in that Grand Prix event or any athlete that comes to Russia for competition?

If the Russians have to quarantine for three days without practice tis a real problem.

Good luck to the girls and guys.

Thank you FF for the information and explanation. It makes sense.

I have doubts over Alena using Frank Sinatra New York New York. Its very rare for ladies to use a male vocal in their program so I'm not sure how it will play out. Also Frank Sinatra has a very masculine voice which Alena style definitely isnt so it might clash.
I disagree .. I think it's better suited than Liza Minelli... it's more smooth.. more playfull.. Liza is more powerfull.. and I don't think Kostornaia has the energy for that right now

where have conspiracy theories materialized? Who would be stating such unsupported nonsense? (assuming that it involves some unknown and unfounded conspiracy to keep Russian skaters out of Canada and out of Skate Canada)

"tear them apart"? tear "who" apart? This is unclear to me.:scratch2: Why would anyone need to be torn apart?

I do hope that every skater at Skate Canada skates their very best and is happy with their skates, including the Russian women. That after all is the primary motivation (or so I have read) of every skater.
Sam does not mean real violence. It's a figure of speech like sasha's little brother said a couple years ago she was gonna tear everybody to pieces. ;) Sam just means for the 3 Russian ladies to dominate the competition. And he's pissed.

As far any possible delay goes I hope that's not the case they are already being handicapped by the 10 hour time difference from where they live in Russia.

I understand, and I understand the skaters' frustrations and their fans' frustrations.

But the word "conspiracy" had been mentioned and there is and was no "conspiracy". If they want to "crush" their own PBs, fine and dandy.

I do not agree that Canada and France should not organize competitions, this has nothing to do with their ability to organize but with their country's standards, but that is 1) getting into politics and 2)a question for another thread.

I'm glad we agree on the lack of conspiracy. :)

The only requirement was negative PCR test on arrival. However, a lot is happening right now. Basically everything is closing for nonvaxxed people. And here we have another round of stupid "tits for tats": you don't recognize our Sputnik-V - we won't recognize your Pfizer. And they are talking about big time lockdown. With such I don't know what is going to happen with my all event ticket for Rusnats. One thing that I'm sure of is that Russia desperately wants to restore the reputation after all those scandals. And if there are no announcements by now there won't be any "surprises" for non Russian skaters and their teams.
Good luck to the girls and guys.
Thanks!

The term was in "italics" in the first place.

And the source isn't the best, they also said Zhilina broke a leg when it was a fracture.

Well I'm not commenting on the validity of the source (I don't know what news organizations in Russia are necessarily reputable vs. tabloid), and I don't know about Russia medically but in the US a fractured bone and a broken bone are pretty much interchangeable terms. Now there are different severities of breaks/fractures, but medically speaking, both from internet research and personal experience with doctors for the same injury, 1 will call it a break and another will say its a fracture.

From the Mayo Clinic, a well-respected medical organization (link below for source purposes): "A broken leg (leg fracture) is a break or crack in one of the bones in your leg. Common causes include falls, motor vehicle accidents and sports injuries."

https://www.mayoclinic.org/diseases-conditions/broken-leg/symptoms-causes/syc-20370412

I doubt she has actually broken a foot. She was walking around Las Vegas with no problems and considering Anna had to skip training for broken toe, I can't see how Eteri would let Sasha jump quads with a broken foot.

Your foot is made up of many bones, speaking from experience, its perfectly reasonable that she could break a bone and there be minimal ability to notice. The second time I broke my foot (I wish I was kidding when I typed that) as it wasn't a displaced fracture, they didn't even put me in a cast, it was a heavy duty bandage and boot for 6 weeks. Shcherbakova broke a toe on her picking foot, just consider the motion of going into a jump (and Shcherbakova has a tendency to hammer-toe her jumps), vs. going into a jump with perhaps a minor break to a bone in the middle part of the foot, the latter is probably more doable and sustainable to do.

At least Aliona and Kami wont be without a coach as Dani G left with Morisi earlier on Saturday or Sunday and should be done with his quarantine on official practices. The rest will have to do without its definitely not ideal.

Just a feeling and they dont normally leave their remaining skaters training at home with no coach, its also a huge hassle to get into Canada as we have seen with the whole visa situation and we would have seen many articles about Eteri also leaving for Canada from the US had she left to go there after the Gala as we got bunch of articles over this visa situation fully detailing which coaches and skaters were where and who has entered Canada and who hasn't.

Will it ever be made public what Russian athletes have been vaccinated or is it just a private personal issue that will remain that way?

I noticed that the stage 3 Russian cup there were hardly any fans there and at the recent Moscow tennis tournament I think they were at 30% capacity. Is it just precautionary and they're trying to stay one step ahead of the virus or are you guys getting hit again?

Keeping my fingers crossed that all the contenders to make the Olympic team stay healthy not just in Russia but all countries.
The pressure to just make an Olympic team for the Russians is just incredible it's massive it's out of this world and then you add having to deal with the virus on top of everything it's mind boggling.
