2021 Skate Canada: Women's Short Program

What a nerve wrecking short that was. And what a bunch of stingy judges there was!! Kamila could easily have broken the world record here if the judges weren't so stingy. But I think it must be a world record in tech right? 48.04.

Great event. Can't wait for the free program tomorrow morning!

Now I need some sleep!!!!!!

What I'm extrapolating from the scores is that the judges are neither from nor like new york very much.

Goe scoring is spot on. Technical calling is correct. The PCS is not understandable.

Did Higuchi get UR? Her jumps looked ok to me. Liu had 2 obvious URs and got higher PCS for waving her arms all over the place. Lol

Huge PCS scores I'm sure, just like at her last event. Love Kamila too but her scores have me smh.

Kamila's PCS was not that huge. But she gets the others with her quality on the spins. Best spins in the business.

It doesn't get more obviously UR'd. If Karen could only rotate her jumps like her spins ...

She can rotate, just not 3-3's. Had trouble with those for years.

In fairness, Alysa has a lot of transitions and great choreography. Program wise, I think hers is the best. Valieva and Tuk were overscored in PCS. Karen in TES.. Why was the technical caller blind only to her and Tuk's URs...

Haven't checked the protocol but I thought the 3T was under.

Wow - Another great skate with a 3A! Liza is such a great jumper, the best in the field, but the rest of her skating is just not at the same level. She really needs to work on her spins and flexibility. I didn't find the program terribly exciting either - which is a shame, because I like her as a person and I really value what she represents in the field.

I've never found her choreography compelling or even worthy of the term "choreography".......just random skating around with those flexed arms and limp wrists. But the girl can jump! No doubt about it!

Her 3Loop is often under too..... But she wasn't called here so that's good for her...

Liza became 80+ this season apparently. We thought Finlandia was generous, but this NOT so generous judges went with her also!

I don't look at scores for anyone anymore. Too baffling and heartbreaking. I know it is a sport, but I prefer to appreciate the beauty of it and not raise my blood pressure over judges' whims.

I'm generally with you, but I really liked this program or her. It is the first time I have felt compelled by anything but her jumps. (I'm not sure I'm on the 80+ bandwagon, but whatevs....)

So I assume from the scoring that RusFed wants Kamila (obviously) and Liza on the Olympic team. Not bad.

I think Liza's scores show Rusfed thinks she is a contender for the Olympics.

Wakaba's 3T was called q and ! on the flip. Lots of calls for everyone... Which is fair but I'm still confused why the technical panel didn't see Karen or Tuk's issues... Maybe they got tired. .

Kamila is figure skating goddess so even if the judging system suddenly allows marks more then ten in components I will not be surprised.
