Unfortunately I couldn't watch the competition, but I'm amazed that no one here is commenting about Green & Parsons being 4th at Skate Canada, well ahead of the Brits (though it looks like they underperformed?). Did anyone watch and have something to say about the programs?
I was in the audience at Skate Canada and IMHO Green/Parsons’ skill level (both technical and artistic) and overall potential are noticeably greater than that of either Fear/Gibson or Carreira/Ponomarenko. I fully expect them to be the top US team over the next quad.

That's exciting to hear! I need to pay more attention to the upcoming dance couples. Glad not every successful US team is from Gadbois, simply because it is nice to see varying perspectives and creative influences.

Speaking of creative influences ... If anyone is interested in learning more about Green/Parsons and the creative process behind their new free dance, you can read about it here:

Enjoyed the article -- well written and informative as always!!

Nope.

Totally agree. The skill level of these two is unmatched. They are my favorite team this year and it is not even close. Well, maybe Smart/Diaz are close, but Green/Parsons are more artistically creative and doing more difficult choreography (and making it look easy) than anyone I've seen.

Hawayek and Baker have withdrawn from NHK Trophy. She is recovering from a concussion.

Wishing Kaitlin a speedy recovery, and looking forward to see them back skating strong when they're ready and recovered.
This is so unfortunate for H/B :( Especially because Green/Parsons have made up a lot of ground in the fall season. They are still on the entry-list for Rostelecom, which is two weeks after NHK, but I'm starting to feel like they're gonna withdraw from that too :(, just with how little we've seen or heard from them, the injury is probably pretty bad. If they don't compete in the fall season, I can't see them keeping their US No. 3 spot

WIth half of the Grand Prix season now done, H/D have competed at both of their Grand Prixs and will qualify for the Grand Prix Final. Green/Parsons have also done both of their Grand Prix Assignments. Green/Parsons especially look super strong this season. They've clearly established themselves as ahead of Carreira/Ponomarenko, who have been dealing with a big coaching change, and are closing in on H/B, who have been injured and unable to compete in the fall circuit. As of now, Green/Parsons look to be the US No. 1 team for the upcoming quad (unless C/B really don't retire and stick around for another four more years).

H/D and C/B look to be virtually interchangeable this season, as there is no clear US No. 1 (let's see if that's still the case after NHK). Both teams are currently behind Gilles/Poirier however, since the American teams are scoring around 208 while G/P got a 211 at Skate Canada. Now, it's difficult to compare scores across competitions, but it's pretty obvious that Skate Canada are pushing hard for G/P to get that Olympic bronze, since they're the only hope that Skate Canada really has of getting an Olympic medal. It will be very enlightening to see how they all stack up at Grand Prix Final.

It’s a concussion. Some are worse than others but I can’t imagine it taking months to heal. If it does, it does. Skating is not worth sacrificing her brain.

Madi Chock got a concussion last season in early July, and that knocked Chock/Bates out of Skate America in October, and even for US Nationals in January, they didn't look fully back and they later said in an interview that they didn't get as much training time as they would have hoped. If Kaitlin's concussion is anything like Madi's, we shouldn't expect to see H/B until Nationals :(

If they're feeling strong enough to compete, they should really try to go to a Challenger or other small international event in December or early January, just so their programs can get some competitive mileage before Nationals.

G/P could have really made it hard on H/B if they had skated in Italy like they did in SC. if you want to make the Olympic team you can't make mistakes like they had yesterday.

As of now, Green/Parsons and Hawayek/Baker both are in Priority Group 4 of USFS selection criteria for 2022 Olympics.
At this point (after GP Italy), Green/Parsons still are making a formidable run at the third Olympic spot, as I see it. :)

Hawayek/Baker's 2021 Worlds ninth-place score of 188.51 just barely exceeds the the Group 4 single-score benchmark of 188.45 (the 2021 Worlds tenth-place score).

As of now, Green/Parsons easily are meeting the Group 4 criterion of international "scores that would consistently place them in the top 15 at the 2021 World Championships .... (defined as the athlete’s/team’s median score from identified international events is greater than or equal to the total score from the 15th place finishers from the 2021 World Championships)."
As of now, Green/Parsons are very clearly exceeding the median-score benchmark of 178.18 -- whether or not Lake Placid International is included as one of the "identified international events" (the USFS document is not clear on this point).
If Lake Placid International is not included, Green/Parson's median score as of now is 186.51.
If Lake Placid International is included, their median score as of now is 182.385.
(Plus ... Green/Parsons' Autumn Classic score of 188.43 is only 0.02 away from the Group 4 single-score benchmark of 188.45!)

For easy reference, 2021-22 international scores for Green/Parsons:

Sorry to hear about Hawayek/Baker's withdrawal from NHK. :(

BTW: 2022 Nats RD is scheduled for Jan 7.
Early January will be too late to add mileage at an international event.

Will they (H/B) have any more opportunities for International competition other than their one remaining GP event?

Golden Spin is December 8-11, so in exactly one month. That's the last major international as defined by USFS. There might be other minor international competitions in late December that they could enter.

I forgot that Nationals was so early this year, since it's usually January 20 something, but with the Olympics, that makes sense. I just remember when C/B came back from injury in the 2018-19 season, they competed in Poland in early January to get some mileage before Nationals. Hopefully, H/B can go to Golden Spin or some other international before nationals.

It's only natural to compare teams, especially in an Olympic season when we all wonder who will be going to said Olys, but isn't it such an embarrassment of riches that we have all these great duos to enjoy??! I love H/B, am falling in love with G/P, find H/D's power always impressive, and can watch C/B over and over and over. (And that's just the Americans.)
