Well, Mishin and his wife are also people of the old generation. And yes, this statement was also unethical.

It's very simple, it's not rocket science. It's about a conflict of interest - in both cases, both with Mishin's wife and with Orser, this objectively exists. In both cases, both should be silent or say common words blah, blah, everyone is wonderful, the grass is green and the sky is blue.

I can see where you are coming from. Again not to divert from Russian ladies, but to go with examples I know, Jason has been great at this in his interviews with the Russian press: they try "gotcha" questions and he answers with sweetness and light.

But I honestly don't think Brian meant disrespect to any other competitors, and he might not know how the answers would be interpreted by the Russian press.

In any event, I hope they all skate their best and I'm sure whoever is selected will be fine representatives of Russia. :)

To make an analogy, I may love Jason, but if Eteri T talked about how wonderful Nathan/Vincent/Ilia were, in response to a direct question, I would not consider it an ethical lapse. Nor is this.
Your analogy does not quite fit the situation with Orser cuz Eteri has no personal conflict of interest as a coach - because she is the girls' coach, and Morice is not a real rival.

Plus, the situation with US guys is not identical to the situation with Russian girls. As far as I understand, Brown is a confident third number of the national team, and if everything goes on as usual, he will go to the Olympics. The analogy would be more accurate if US had Nathan, and two Vincents (for example, we would live in a universe where he has a twin brother) and Eteri would say,"I think Brown must go to Olympics."

And in that case, it would be unethical even though Eteri would not have a personal conflict of interest - she still is a representative of the Russian Federation (she is a prominent coach, she is a member of the coaching council) and she should not in any way try to influence the choice of the US national team.

Well, they haven’t replaced Rika either, so it’ll be 9 skaters at NHK for ladies.
That's just not enough skaters.t.
Alexander Kogan is saying that Sasha isn't withdrawing, but isn't going to compete at NHK.

What the heck does that mean? If she isn't going she might as well have withdrawn.

Does he know Nastia and Masha changed federation's? ;)

Again, I see your post of view. I don't think we will convince each other, but it is good to have an exchange.

And from your lips to God's ear about Jason and the Oly team:ot:

(for everyone else, apologies for inside joke. :) )

I don't think so. Honestly, I have no idea. 🤷‍♀️

This sounds like Sasha's just going to go AWOL, and not show up without officially withdrawing so nobody can take her spot.

While I don't know the exact rules, it sounds like this would have terrible reproductions, and penalties, so one could only hope that this is a translation error or something.
It is too late to replace her anyway with or without officially withdrawing. Japan can only put in another Japanese skater in replacement of Kihira. Other replacements must be from the Alternate List. And it doesn't look as someone wants to go to Japan as Olga Mikutina, who wd almost a couple of weeks ago hasn't been replaced either.

I think Kogan meant that it was not her decision

Kogan just tried to emphasize that everything is under control.

"First of all, I would like to clarify the wording: Sasha did not withdraw from the stage, but skips it on the urgent recommendation of doctors."

He mean that word "withdraw" it's about a situation where you have no choice (at least usualy we have such connotations). Sasha could (and apparently wanted to) go in Japan, but the doctors asked her not to do it.

"All these recommendations have been agreed with the FFSR, and together we decided that the first priority for Trusova is to recover and calmly prepare for the Russian Championship in order to qualify for the Olympic Games."

In my opinion, everything is clear - they decided to be safe and specifically clarify this. The right step, the right coverage of the situation.

Of course Brian Orser admires Mishin's work with Tuktamysheva. It's insanely impressive coaching work that he has kept a lady both physically and mentally competitive at the very top for so long. Mishin is a very interesting person to listen to, I always look forward to his interviews, as his decades and decades of experience coaching have imparted a lot of wisdom. Mishin has coached a lot of champions and has been at the forefront of a sport that has changed immeasurably since he started coaching in the 1960's. I mean heck, the fact that Mishin himself is still working like this at the age of 80 is pretty crazy.

I think everyone needs to calm down. (lol In fact I actually think that would be Mishin's advice)

Which reminds me, you can purchase the digital English language version of Mishin's book here: https://www.ifsmagazine.com/the-secrets-of-the-ice-alexei-mishin/

I've been meaning to read it. I expect it would be a very interesting read for anyone interesting in figure skating (and especially Russian figure skating). The little interviews Mishin has given about coaching during the Soviet era are fascinating.

You know what people Super Sasha won Skate America on a broken freaking foot.
And thats actually not something great, because it could have made the injury worse for all we know because its like history is repeating itself! The only difference is that sasha doesnt have the spot on the team safe and zhenya had her spot safe. And anyone who finds it amazing that she jumped and skated on a broken foot and wants to praise her for that, go in but please do not make it sound for all of us like its a great thing, its not if sasha were my daughter? I would have told her in no uncertain terms that no she will not compete because health is more important than anything else, and at least rusfed seems to have learned from 4 years ago, and did the right thing of not letting sasha compete next week, i also wasnt fond of anna getting smelling salt last year at rusnats, yes she won, yes she had the skate of her season but she didnt think aounher health, if someone needs smelling salt than i as a Couch would pull the brake ,(and i like both anna and sasha but i just cant with people who think that when the skaters ignore their health in those moments is a good thing for which they should get praised , ) i am sorry for the rant but i also wished that zhenya had gone to the doctor earlier than she did in 2017

Yeah, what you guys said above makes much more sense. What I suggested above was only what I could figure out based on the wording. I did not think that that is what actually happened. (I speak English, not Google Translate 🙃)

Afaik, stress fracture in foot is not very dangerous if given time to heal, but if you rush recovery things might get serious.
Michael Jordan had such injury in his second professional season and was eager to come back, while whole medical and coaching staff opposed, making him furious but quite likely saving his long, epic career. Still, he didn't have to attend the most important, quadrennial tournament of his life in three months...

I would like to disagree but I agree with every word. I wish that for Zhenya but we can't turn back the clock even though we turned back the clock last night. ;)

The silver lining is that Trusova's coaches have probably learnt lessons from Medvedeva's situation. For example, the decision to withdraw and heal rather than push through the injury is significant.
But is it fair to assume that if Nationals were next week Sasha would be skating? I would hope so but we just don't know enough about her injury and how long it will take to fully heal.

Sasha is really coming on and her programs are excellent so I hope this is just a one event thing and she comes back in a few weeks.
