I don’t know that a time thinks Eteri herself is evil, but I also don’t understand the fan devotion and loyalty to her. Fans worship her and if a skater switched to another coach then that skater is almost instantly shunned by the so called fans. Skating fans usually watch skating to cheer on their favorite skaters- not their favorite coaches. It’s such an odd dynamic now.

Well I would counter that there are equal number of people that its just the opposite, they shun a skater when coached by Eteri but once they switch to someone else then all of sudden they love the skater and they are the next greatest ever skaters.

This channel is well worth a follow. Sums up the news in 8 minutes. Subtitles in English and more languages than I can count.

I can answer this for me: because she produces the most technically exciting skaters and has a record of excellence and skater depth rare in skating history, and is becoming one of the dynasties in individual sport history.

Don‘t think people realize what a huge revolution she started. She is a pioneer. A true pioneer. That alone makes me a fan.

Best case she will go 1-2 in the Olympics for a second time and is already grooming a potential champion 5 years from now. That kind of success isn’t a common occurrence.

Plus, I admire successful coaches. They offer nice life lessons.

And has been a part in making skating an important sport in Russia, which has made skaters incredibly wealthy at a young age, which nobody talks about. Her ice shows and contacts and the doors she can open are limitless. From a business perspective, she is a good contact.

You can like individual skaters and a team. Those are not mutually exclusive.

Ms. Tutberidze if you are reading this, I’ll gladly take a job doing PR for you. CV available upon request. Haha

Liza has had more than 1 good senior season and 2 WC medals including a gold. She cleanly beat out Alena to get the spot that gave her the silver remember.

Alena is a one year wonder so far. And 10 years into her career Liza has been pounding Alena head to head for over a year. And none of that is a figment of my imagination.

And fantasy or not, her best skate came after the coach got on her case. You can chalk it up to coincidence. Don’t need to give the coaches credit. We have a different way of interpreting what happened.

And of course coaches can’t turn someone unathletic like me into a champion. That’s why I mentioned recruiting and spotting raw talent.

The Anna situation is not of my doing. It was in response to those last year that wanted her to quit and were castigating her for “putting lives at risk.” I support her then and now unreservedly.

And I never said you said coaches didn’t matter a little or a lot. And that’s on me if I phrased it like that. Hey I’m not perfect.
In one of your first posts you made it a point to laugh at Liza beating Aliona everywhere she goes for a year. How you handle some push back, not well is the answer. One year wonder yet even some of her worst skating rivals some of Liza's best. Liza's good senior seasons where she still doesn't skate as good as Aliona's worst. Point is that all skaters can struggle a little, Aliona struggling at 18 would have been dream come true performing for Liza in her slump. Aliona's skating was not atrocious last year despite it being much lower than her very high standards either.

Also she landed a 3A in her previous SP skate with a new program? She also skated her Finlandia SP with commitment. No need to rewrite history.

Alena, like several other Russian skaters, have a peak level that's higher than Liza's. What Liza brings is consistently strong results. She's only dipped below 220 once in her last eight (domestic and international) events, and that's impressive when you think about how up-and-down most of the other Russian women can be.

I think Liza's great and impressive - but never knew some fans were this deluded I guess. Liza spent years and years in the wilderness.

Anna spent 13 without less than 220 so far! Liza has that 204 so it's a streak of 6.

So do we think Shcherbakova goes for 1 or 2 quads tomorrow? With Kostornaia still being hesitant with the triple axel to the point they didn't put it in the SP I doubt she goes for 2 triple axels in the FS, so 1 quad should be sufficient to win for Shcherbakova.

Methinks you over react to the situation. I don't think everyone thinks she's evil and those who adore Eteri see no faults. I mean we can all look back at 2018 and realize her behavior was not good when Evgenia left her. She should have protected her second daughter more than she did but I think she looks at herself as a coach first and foremost. This coach will be tested after the Olympic season because I think a couple of her top ladies could leave her camp and I would expect that to go smoother then transitions have in recent years. We will find out.

Also this coach came from nowhere to create the most dominant dynasty in the ladies discipline ever seen in figure skating a dynasty that shows no signs of slowing down. People are envious of that.

The question I have is Eteris Dynasty at this point greater than the Russian pairs dynasty of Coach Moskvina? Perhaps EG needs more years and more Olympic gold's.

If it's true that no coach from sambo was with adelia when she did a 4R then that's not a good look.

I consider myself a fair and balanced supporter of EG.

Truth!

How many years in the wilderness?

That said it's impressive that Liza has brought her career back to the level it is now the last couple years. If she skated like this in 2014 and 2018 she would have been a 2 time olympian by now. I still don't understand how Russia only had 2 spots in 2014 Sochi olympics at home. That was ridiculous.

I think Liza is battling it out for the 3rd spot with Sasha and Maya and aliona. The 1st 2 spots are taken already in my opinion unless something unforeseen happens.

I agree. Anna now has two golds in the GP Circuit and her free skate only cemented what a champion she is. After the first scary slip…. I thought she was going to have a rough skate. But, like always, she musters this strength to land a 4F and then land all her triples including the 3Lz 3Lo. She is the definition of fighter.
