I'm not sure if you can say "changing coaches really set Aliona back." Aliona was already showing some signs of struggling before Euros.

I would say it's more likely that the pandemic hurt Aliona - and most importantly and unfortunately, her getting injured AND ill. She wasn't able to get her 3A back or her stamina and was injured. Those were all problems before she even left Eteri.
She was injured AND ill before she left Eteri? Where is this coming from?

And what were the signs of struggling before euros? Landing the best 3As she ever did in her life at Nationals? Winning GPF?

Might I recall, all 3 had underwhelming performances at Euros, not just Aliona, which is more likely due to them having time off for holidays and not forcing 100% clean performances when they are not required.
Why single out Aliona? None of the three were at a risk of losing a podium, hence there was no need to be 100% clean.

Aliona’s biggest error was 1 fall in her final lutz, so let’s not get it twisted. She skated well in her practices and all other jumps and elements were great, maybe except StSq3.

Regarding her lack of 3A after quarantine, I already mentioned: Sofia Akatieva also didn’t have her 3A back in Novogorsk. She got it back when they returned to Moscow.

We still have no details as to which injuries she suffered under Plushenko, if there were any. Covid for sure, however I don’t know how much it is responsible for what happened before she got it, because step outs and bungled spins were happening before she got covid.

Maybe small signs but all of 3A were a little off their game at Europeans. Alyona would have been the favorite at world's International judges loved her that season.

The image you show wasn't where Anna fell...she fell in the opposite corner near the Knc. What you showed was staff cleaning just after the Zamboni...
I can't remember staff removing water en masse after Zamboni cleaning in Russian competitions. Anna might have fallen in the opposite corner. It does not contradict to the obvious fact - the quality of ice was bad there.

The ice at IdF is notoriously bad. (Although Aliona did say that she liked it, so I guess it's personal preference, but it's still a mess)

Even looking at the slow-mo I can't tell what happened with Anna's Lutz. Her toe pick never went in at all. Whether it was the ice, a mistake on her part, or a combination of the two is very unclear to me.

But Alina wasn’t skating totally clean leading into the Olympics either. Some say she had the skate of her life at the Olympics- struggling at Worlds and with consistency the next season.

I think Kamila will win Olympic gold easily. I think people knew this last season. I commend Anna for not going down without a fight though.
Actually Alina skated 2 perfect programs at Europeans too, and beat Zhenya there first. Prior to that, she only made mistakes in the short program (usually having trouble with the 2A after the Charlotte), but always skated the FS cleanly. Her mistakes at Worlds weren't due to her being an inconsistent skater. She was totally burnt out after the Olympics. If you watch her warm up prior to the Milan Worlds, you can see she is totally over it. I don't think people appreciate how difficult it must have been to skate her FS cleanly twice in a row at the Olympics. Think about how Yulia had a meltdown at the Sochi Olympics after she skated her perfect FS for the team event. It will be interesting to see how Anya and Kamila do at the Olympics team and individual events. I am almost positive they will make the team. Third will be a fight between Sasha, Liza, and Aliona.

Its kinda ironic how the composer of Anna of sp music gave some critic comments of Daniil G cut of his music and offered to work with them for a better cut. And the next thing we know Daniil G dumps the whole music and gives her a new SP from a different composer. I guess Daniil G wasnt interested in the offer. Anyway not that the old music was any good but I dont understand why the change. Its not like her pcs were being lowballed in the sp. Okay maybe it was. Lowballed in terms of not getting the inflated pcs they expected to have. I guess the world champion being only 1.7 pcs behind a skater who until then never won any major medals must have freaked them out. Despite the fact Anna made a mistake and Loena skated clean.
So it seems they will only change the program if they dont feel they are getting the pcs they think they are entiled to. I guess that explains why Kamila sp is literally Storm with different music because they know the judges will shower her with pcs no matter what. And why they will continue the monstrosity Bolero program

So barring some crazy result next week (Loena beating two or three Russians, Kamila placing exactly 4th, etc.), it looks like Anna, Alena, Kamila, Liza, and Maiia could all make the GPF. It's the first look we'll have at the top Russians (minus Sasha) head-to-head, judged by an international panel. Hopefully skaters like Alena and Maiia can post an impressive result to get themselves back in contention for Olympic spots, as their prospects appear to be sinking.

Yes this will be an important show off for all of them to see where they stand against each other before nationals.

I think also this might be good for Sasha. She doesn't have to deal with jet lag and burning herself out before nationals. She can just concentrate on the important task at hand.

Will be interesting to see how judges score when they have Anna the People’s Favorite and Kamila the Federation’s Favorite on the same ice. What will Kamila’s score look like when the judges can’t get away with giving her positive GOE for falls again?
