She was injured AND ill before she left Eteri? Where is this coming from?I'm not sure if you can say "changing coaches really set Aliona back." Aliona was already showing some signs of struggling before Euros.
I would say it's more likely that the pandemic hurt Aliona - and most importantly and unfortunately, her getting injured AND ill. She wasn't able to get her 3A back or her stamina and was injured. Those were all problems before she even left Eteri.
And what were the signs of struggling before euros? Landing the best 3As she ever did in her life at Nationals? Winning GPF?
Might I recall, all 3 had underwhelming performances at Euros, not just Aliona, which is more likely due to them having time off for holidays and not forcing 100% clean performances when they are not required.
Why single out Aliona? None of the three were at a risk of losing a podium, hence there was no need to be 100% clean.
Aliona’s biggest error was 1 fall in her final lutz, so let’s not get it twisted. She skated well in her practices and all other jumps and elements were great, maybe except StSq3.
Regarding her lack of 3A after quarantine, I already mentioned: Sofia Akatieva also didn’t have her 3A back in Novogorsk. She got it back when they returned to Moscow.
We still have no details as to which injuries she suffered under Plushenko, if there were any. Covid for sure, however I don’t know how much it is responsible for what happened before she got it, because step outs and bungled spins were happening before she got covid.
