Alena Kostornaia

Lately, she seems to be really into putting stuff all around her eyes. She does not need this. Her eyes are already naturally captivating.
The thing is you have to let a teenager be a teenager. If she wants to do this she's going to do it. I would not think it impacts her skating at all.

We all desperately want aleona's scores to go way up like they used to be. Let's see if that can happen because people generally like her programs now and if she likes them I expect her to get better for Grand Prix final and then nationals and who knows what else.

score 20% more: impossible
global impression 20% better is possibile.
there is nothing to lose there so she will go for a trixel in the short.
That could be a boost and raise her up
When does she have to do the triple axel by in the SP GPF or Russian Nationals? I think it's the gpf because we want the judges at Russian Nationals to be ready for her triple axel in the SP.

The thing is a aleona needs to be able to do the triple Axel in the x s p and then let her skating skills take the lead over Liza so Liza doesn't have a big lead over her heading into the free.

If she wants to be scored generously at nationals, she will have to land some 3As at gpf. Otherwise, Liza will be supported(unless she has a disaster skate, which hasn't happened recently).

I would think AK knows this too. Plan A is to get her trixel back Plan B is to just make us happy by skating beautifully with program she really likes.

My main concern is that AK has lost confidence and can't really fire on her 3Ayet.

I believe she's regaining confidence. I hope it didn't go away this weekend with the scoring problems at RoC.

I was talking about GPF.
One skate at a time

That's it .. one skate at time .. but i think when she lands the first ... the others 3A will come .. because in her case is clear.. it's not the techic is the head .. and the get is getting better
Yes, I think once Aliona „gets it“, she’ll start landing all 3As at once. I can only hope it happens before GPF. When she really wants something, she gets it, that much I know. Crossing fingers and hoping for Aliona to come out on the other side of the 3A saga.

just saw/digested kostornaia's recent competition+ex this weekend and i am over the moon!

really mind if she doesn't win the olympics at this point. she's got oodles more personality, lightyears better choreo, and superior skating. let the judges do their scoring - won't change my opinion!

having said that, we all know she's still capable 🤞 🥇

A cloud's over GPF. Japan is closing borders again for most people because of Omicron COVID variant.
I read somewhere that FS federation had received a message from JSF saying they were doing their best to be able to hold GPF in spite of restrictions and hope to give a definitive answer within two days.

Time is running out she needs to hit a 3A in the SP at the GPF. She still has a chance for the Olympic team but she has to come up big at the Grand Prix final and Russian nationals to get back in the mix. If she doesn't that's OK she's 18 she can skate for many years and give us joy. She's the most beautiful skater in the world and she has a lot to offer fans. It's all there for Aliona. But it's not like anybody is going to be KV this season as it looks now so you can't really make not making the Olympic team the end of the world for any of the Russian ladies in the mix.

Yes.. that’s what makes me very worried. Everything’s on the line. The stakes grew higher every time she didn’t land her 3A.

Yes, I totally agree. Assuming the GPF happens, Aliona needs to do three 3As and hopefully land them all cleanly if she wants to have any chance to make the podium at Nationals. If she doesn't skate well at GPF, then I think it won't matter how well she skates at Nationals; they will bury her in the scores. (Of course, that could change *if* there are withdrawals due to injury or illness.)

I said this after Skate Canada -- but if Aliona doesn't end up making the Olympic team, she will need to make some decisions about whether or not she wants to keep training and competing. I think Aliona could really make a name for herself as an artist on ice -- the kind of skater that may not be doing quads but that everyone looks forward to seeing because her skating is beautiful and effortless and her programs are unique and interesting and fun to watch. But I am not sure that Team T. would let her stay if she's not a top contender, and I'm not sure they would give her these kinds of programs. I'm also not sure Aliona/her family could afford to pay for training if she stopped receiving funding from the national team. And most of all, I'm not sure what Aliona herself wants to do. We shall see...

But no matter what, I will be supporting our rebel hooligan! :hap10:

Johnny Weir and Tara Lipinski had some really nice things to say about Aliona from the broadcast of the IdF SP:

In the 2019-20 season, I remember Johnny saying that he want his child (if he had one) to skate like Aliona, and he said it again here. Nice to see that he's still a fan. Tara said she's like an angel, which made me  I know Aliona just loves being called an angel -- not!
