I’m a bit out of the loop in regards to Russia’s counter pandemic measures, but do we know if the Russian ladies have been vaccinated yet at this point? Or are they just planning on going to Beijing early and doing the quarantine?
The IOC/ISU put out a statement a couple of weeks ago exempting minor athletes from the Olympic quarantine if the vaccine in their home country was not approved for under 18s yet.

However, that same day, Russia announced that Sputnik vaccine was approved for 12 and up, meaning all the skaters are now eligible to get it. This means the exemption no longer applies to them. They will have to either get the vaccine or abide by the quarantine period.

I cannot believe the number of times "Just move it to another country!!" has come up in the last few days. Convinces me that none of you read any posts except your own.

Amongst other logistical issues (finding a venue, building the ice, finding a production team, cameras, insurance, lodging), it takes 30 days to process a visa for a non citizen. The GPF has to be held next weekend or not at all (though maybe at the end of the season) because there's no space in the calendar for the rest of the season to hold another event. It can't be moved.

There was some discussion pages ago but I believe as it stands the only vaccines approved in Russia are not approved for anyone under the age of 18. Additionally I think its been said athletes unable to vaccinate will have exceptions to the quarantine requirements for Beijing.
Which i still consider a problem because if they arent vaccinated than they have to quarantine for 21 days which would or could seriously hinder the trainingsprocess and their chances of medalling as well. By the way anyone knows if liza or alena are vaccinated? As they are the only ones who are over 18? I also hope china doesnt change their conditiins and doesnt make vaccination a mandate for competing

My point the last few days has been that the ISU needed to have contingency options in place its not like this is the first time for them, Covid is never going away and if they are going to give events to countries that are quick to shutdown due to it they as a business need a back up plan, perhaps that backup plan is some buffer time for an event like the final or a backup host location etc. Their business is competitions and they are likely losing a lot with the final at best being moved to the end of season, at least for the ladies the final was going to be pretty climactic as the first meeting of almost all the contenders for the russian Olympic team (and potentially the Olympic podium preview) on the international stage, now its going to be after the Olympics so that marketing is out the window, and Worlds after the Olympics is usually a bit of a dud with the big players from the Olympics WD, so the GPF if held will likely suffer as well.

Unrelated to your comment but I wonder if Isabeau Levito will be allowed (if desired) to rescind her WD and knock out Zinina.

That's my whole thing where is the plan B the plan C the plan D? The normal days of our lives and the normal days of sports world lives are over forever. You have to be able to think on your feet you have to be able to change on a dime and that goes for the leaders of sports organizations too. It's a shame Japan is having this problem again and for the people 1st and foremost then sports after that. I don't for a second place the equal cloud equal quality for sports that I do for human life.

No the American girl should not be able to skate in the junior Grand Prix final if there is one after after pulling out. But there are too many important competitions in the Olympic season Susan I don't even think they should do the Grand Prix final at any point.

Per my post, its been said if an athlete cannot vaccinate in their home country due to their age they would be excluded from quarantining, but someone posted that the Russian vaccine is eligible now for everyone over 12, so the ladies will have to vaccinate or quarantine

They should have had a plan B hell they should have moved it back in the summer when Tokyo struggled so much during the Olympics with Corona virus. It is not Japan's fault that coronavirus hit them again. They have to protect their citizens their country and their borders and they are doing so.

But it is the fault of the ISU not to have moved the Grand Prix final right at the beginning of the grand prix season 2 months ago.

I 100% agree.

Plus there are some other smaller things people don’t consider when getting visas. For example, a few years ago my mother and I went to Russia. She had to get a brand new passport because we were told that we needed 2 full pages for the Russian Visa. It took a while and this was in normal times so imagine now with all the delays..

Denied. It was reported on a few weeks ago. I saw on sports.ru
That’s sad to hear. She only ever had one international assignment and it was 4 years ago. There’s no way she’ll be competitive for assignments moving forward now that the level is so high so I wonder why hers was denied especially when Gubanova with much better past results had hers approved.

Was it because of a problem with the Italian fed specifically? Maybe talailakina should try switching to France, since they were the last fed to release a skater to Russia back in 19-20. Or maybe Hungary since Toth just retired and Russia has allowed a lot of transfers to Hungary recently

Isn't the French Fed quite terrible?

I think the difference might be that Talalaikina competed at Nationals last season, Gubanova didn't. Maybe they will release Maria next season?
