Wishing Aliona an easy and speedy recovery!!
My first thought when I saw the news was -- well, at least I won't have to get up in the middle of the night to watch Russian Nationals!
It's so unfortunate for Aliona to suffer another injury and miss yet another big competition, but honestly my hopes for Aliona to score high enough at Nationals to make the Olympic team died when the Grand Prix Final was canceled...

From my perspective, the only thing that has changed is that now Aliona probably won't even be an alternate for the team, but who really knows? Any of the other girls could still get injured or sick between now and February 3, so I still think anything is possible (though highly unlikely).
For now I'll choose to agree with Alena Leonova:
Леонова: борьба на чемпионате России не станет менее интересной из-за отсутствия Косторной

I wonder how Alena will be selected for further competitions. Usually, for athletes of this level who are in the top, additional control rentals are arranged. The coaching staff will analyze the situation, the results of the skates at the Russian Championship, and see who will get the third ticket to the European Championship. It's too early to say anything, Alena still has some chances for the Olympic Games.
In terms of injuries, I think a fractured hand or wrist is probably the least problematic for a skater (as opposed to a leg/foot/hip injury). Like some of you, I also fractured my wrist, and while it was painful and very inconvenient to have a cast, my wrist was back to normal pretty quickly -- unlike the times when I sprained my ankles. Even with the cast, Aliona can still do stuff like ride a stationary bike to help maintain her stamina, and if she's really careful, she could
maybe even do some basic stroking exercises on the ice.
But health is most important, so please just concentrate on making a full recovery, Aliona!!
The post from Kostornaia Team about her injury was the first thing I saw about it, so although I was totally bummed to hear about her injury, I was also really excited to hear that she wants to keep skating for another 4-year cycle!!
I still think a lot will depend on whether Team Tut allows her stay, but I really hope we will get to see her beautiful, expressive skating for another 4 years!
I'll be supporting Aliona no matter what!
