Kana Muramoto & Daisuke Takahashi

Thanks a LOT to mikeko-san and synes!!! :) But hey, I am feeling is like :tantrum:, because been awhile since I've seen figure skating competition last.

Mikeko-san, are you going to the Nats as well? If so, enjoy yourself and please please cheer for KanaDai for me, too. :)

A very nice article by Fuji TV: https://www.fnn.jp/articles/-/286838
Yes, I got tickets for both RD and FD! I'm already so excited! :bsplit:
This is my first time to watch their RD in person  , and I'm looking forward to directly comparing their speed and patterns to the others'.

If I'm understanding this Sponichi article correctly Kana and Dai asked their former coaches, Nagamitsu and Hamada, to stand in for Zueva at Nationals and apparently they agreed to take on the role:

https://www.sponichi.co.jp/sports/news/2021/12/22/kiji/20211222s00079000108000c.html

Deepl/Google translation of the relevant bit:

≪US coaches cannot come to Japan due to expansion of mutant strains≫ Coaches cannot come from the US base due to the strengthening of border measures because of the expanding new mutant strains of the new coronavirus, and Muramoto and Takahashi's request was answered by two of their former coaches.

In a joint statement, Muramoto and Takahashi said: "We asked coaches Nagamitsu and Hamada to fill in for us at short notice and they agreed to do so, which is very reassuring for us as we look forward to playing together under any circumstances.

ETA:

It's reported that Nagamitsu and Hamada are watching over KanaDai's practice:

Practice photos 🥰:

It turns out Marina was attending the official practice too - at least virtually ;):

Is that Hiroaki Sato on the left? I think he is part of the Kinoshita Academy coaching staff.

I am pretty new to the Kana / Dai fandom. Love this pair and am curious what the “K7D1” means?
Would love to know. Thanks!

7 is pronounced "nana" in Japanese, so you get K( n)ana, if you put K and 7 together.

D1 is a shortened form of "D1SK", which is a stylised version of D(a)is(u)k(e) with "1" replacing the "i". If I recall correctly Dai came up with the idea and I think he drew the prototype of what would become his official logo himself (don't quote me on that though - maybe someone else can confirm?)

Synes, you are correct. I recall Dai said somewhere, when he thought about the logo for his own goods, decided to replace 'I(=ai in Japanese)' to 1, wishing to be 'number 1'. In the same manner, I think Kana has chosen 'na' as 7 (-nana in Japanese) then k7. :)

Thank you, both! Interesting .. and I would never have figured it out!!

I'm so sad right now. They lost about 7-8 points due to the fall, because it happened on the end of the PSt, which has been one of their money maker elements all season. 😢 I think they had a slight timing issue there and they go all out with how close they skate together. They both lost a level on the twizzles too.

I commend them for the high risk route they are taking with the high level of difficulty of their programs, even if that means there's not much margin for error. They've shown all season that they are up to the task, so for such a fluke fall to happen at such a crucial moment is very unfortunate.

All that said, it's not over yet. They've worked so incredibly hard and I so, so want the Olympics to happen for them. I believe they can come back strong, if they manage to stay focused.

KanaDai, ganba!!! Give it your all on the 25th! :cheer2:

.... I think they are certainly the key to the success of the Japanese ice dance in the international level.
Both the third and fourth place teams looked very good, so when Kana & Dai and Misato & Tim get around to retiring, there will be promising teams ready to take their places. And there are dance teams that could not make it to Japan because of COVID restrictions, too

Sorry about falls in RD today, but it's a competition, it may happen anytime.
Was obvious Dai was nervous upon his opening position, but hey that's the Nats, and this is the Nats in the Olympic season: just understandable that most of top skaters, even in Russian Nats, get nervous. Pressure, expectation, nervousness and/or fire; they have to fight all these feelings mixed within themselves. For Dai, it was eight years ago when he experienced the same feeling within. I just hope both of them, well Dai in particular will focus on their own performance in FD.
I was really impressed with Kana today tbh. Upon her opening position, she also seemed to be nervous a little, but at the same time her eyes were fired up! She didn't falter, didn't lose any of her focus, and went back to the program immediately. Four years ago during the Oly team event's FD, Chris had a fall upon twizzles but Kana kept on, cool-headedly as if nothing happened, just like today. Kana has nerves of steel!

Anyway, it ain't over till it's over. Good luck in FD! 🎬

Oh no, don't crush my spirit even more. 😟 Kana's and Dai's journey together has just begun, I hope they won't retire soon. They're only in their 2nd season and have such huge potential that I would love to see fully realised.

Unfortunately teams often split after they barely got started (e.g. UtaShin, Haruno/Yoshimitsu, Utana/Seiji). My wish is for the current teams to stick around for a while and continue to push each other. And it would be great, if the field keeps growing and getting even more competitive.
