2022 U.S. Nationals: Senior Men's Free Skate

It seems like I’m in the minority, but these are my favorite of the singers who have been forced on us so far. (Note: that bar is not high.)

If they're doing a 3-5-6 why do they have the 13th ranked skater in the 2nd group rather than the 11th place? I guess this was a late decision done after the draw but it seems rather unfair to Ryan Dunk.

exactly!

Some Americans (meaning not me) can't stand a void, especially not when you can be hard core selling something....
American TV seems to show something that’s not sport slap bang in the middle of every sporting event. That’s the land of the free for you - feel free to come, but while you’re there we’re gonna subject you to entertainment that we’ll force you to watch, unless you want to have a very long bathroom break.

I've never seen schedule upending as much as with this year's Nationals. Anyone agree? I understand that COVID and withdrawals in general made things more complicated, and yes, adjustments have to be made to TV - gotta pay those bills. But it's been ridiculous. Start times have varied by HOURS, and then they're still not correct.

As far as the in-arena entertainment goes, I can understand a nod to country music since they're in Nashville, and it's nice to get some local flavor and/or honor the traditions of the area. But this is waaay tooo much. You gotta know your audience, and I don't think there's a big overlap in the figure skating fans and country music fans demographic. Also, the entertainers should be high quality. Go for that rather than quantity please.

It’s all for TV. Normally they would have Romeo the DJ playing music and/or Rusty doing something stupid to eat up the time between the first group and the guys who will be on TV. Or Ice Desk, which at least is skating content, might be played on the Jumbotron. They did have a funny bit in Greensboro where Brian Boitano came to the FOFS in disguise and pretended to be a reporter. I think Jean Luc was the only one who recognized him. I usually read during all this.
That was so cool! Big deal of it on TV

But ice resurfacing should only take 15-20 minutes. If they need to sync up with tv they could have just started the whole thing later. I remember being confused and annoyed in San Jose
I hear you. I'm not sure why there is such a time gap scheduled between the first group and the other two. I'm sure it has something to do with TV schedule, but they could just as easily have timed it for the first group, resurfacing, and start of the penultimate group in time for TV coverage.

But, given they made this decision, a free concert seems preferable to a situation where you feel like you're stuck in an airport waiting for a connecting flight.
