2022 U.S. Nationals: Senior Men's Free Skate

This may have been posted earlier, but does anyone else think Jason Brown didn’t receive the GOE points he deserved? Unless they were revised, it seemed like he didn’t get the max score for many elements, much less any additional GOE points. His triples are so technically beautiful. His landings gorgeous. Everything in between is exquisite. Maybe I looked away for a second and missed something?
Superfans always think their fav should get a +5 on everything and anything less is robbery.

Jason got very high GoE on almost every element. That is why his score is as high as it is without a real quad.

No, he started his program, then had to ask for an interruption because of boot problems, then he jumped a 2A and subsequently withdrew. He looked very off. :(
Oh no! Not again! This happened to him in Lombardia... Oh dear is he doing to be like Jun, who as far as I know has never found boots that don't give him issues.

That's just too sad... Wants to send all the stuffies to Yaro.

If Jason loses his Olympic spot because the judges gifted Zhou the bronze by less than a point over him....

Well if it happens, Jason will have also lost the Olympic spot for failing to have more than one quad attempt across both programs, and that one quad attempt he had was underrotated.

Jason will also have lost the Olympic spot because Zhou delivered in the SP.

Jason will also have lost the Olympic spot because Vincent had much better results than Jason internationally this season.

Even if Jason had eked ahead of Zhou, it would be foolish for the US to not send the skater with literally the 2nd highest total score internationally over the skater with the 9th highest total score internationally.

Also, let's be clear, it's not Jason's Olympic spot. Yes, he helped earn 3 spots at Worlds, but he isn't entitled to the spot.

I shouldn't laugh, but the look on the faces of the crowd if that happened. Oh dear.

However, isn't Vincent the one who's spot is in danger? After Worlds last year 😬 and he only barely beat Jason here. I think the panel will definitely drop him.

Wow Nathan still won! By a lot too?! Gee Ilia is not gonna like that.

Oh no, where's Yaro?! Did he have to withdraw?!!

These are the selection criteria.

Sadly Yaro had to WD. Not from illness, he had equipment malfunction for sure and may be injured, but that’s conjecture.

Jason gave away the Bronze with his lack of technical firepower you mean?

Never understood the entitlement around this. When you have as little TES as Jason does you need to be 100% clean.... and he wasn't. If you have high TES you can afford mistakes.

It isn't some conspiracy.

Well, that was a great final group. I forgot that Zhou was in higher priority group. Well, Olympic team should be Chen-Malinin-Zhou, then. Zhou shouldn’t have beaten Brown, even with the lead, but that wasn’t an accident.

I don’t think the decision is hard at all. Chen, Malinin, Zhou. Hard to justify putting Brown on the team imo. Zhou is inconsistent but he could win a medal if he’s clean, that’s just not possible for Brown.
It's just a hard decision because Malinin literally has no good senior National events.

Now that the FS is said and done though, it's clear that Malinin should be given a shot over Brown who barely has one quad (which he URed and fell) to Malinin's four quads (and Malinin is capable of all 5 types too).

Seriously? He was born in the United States no way he goes to some other country. His time will come starting next season.
Well, in Uzbekistan he would never have to worry about lower ranked skaters getting selected instead of him. That would be the biggest plus for him.

Could I give a standing ovation for this speech?

Also Jason Brown would lose his spot because Malinin skated 2 clean programs, demonstrating 4Lz and 4F. He is here. He basically outskated them all.

If Brown scored more than a half point, I would have selected him over Zhou due to last year Worlds competition. But, with this result, it has to be the top three. Jason Brown is lovely. But, he would also not advance to Olympics if he was from Japan. If Brown goes, the USA could get two medals and then maybe 9th with Brown. Brown can’t place any higher. With Ilia, they have a chance to sweep the podium, if Ilia skates the way he did here and Zhou skates the SP like here, but, better in the free skate. What a tough decision. I just hope Ilia doesn’t get overlooked, which, I feel like he will, due to this Tier system. It is better to take a chance on Ilia than Brown.
