Ilya would have been put on the Russian team, yes. But, Russia only had one skater with consistently decent results this year, Kolyada. If they had more, they would save their higher ranked skaters over him. They buried their Juniors to save Anna's score at RN rather like the USFS did for Vincent. They also selected Semenenko over Mozalev. Russia federation politics.

Jason flies and soars like no other on the ice. He is exactly why I come to watch competitions. And I am not alone, and it is not only Americans, who come to see Jason

You may not appreciate Jason, which is fine, but many do. Within the context of competitive skating. And thank god, today, the USFS selection committee was one of those who did appreciate him.

Jason will be a fine Olympian and some day, so will Ilia.

USFS today proved to be short-sighted and oppressive. As for what you say, I know what you would say about the skaters you don’t like, and it stings just as bad, when you are disparaging of an amazing ability.

Thank you, it does. After coming so close to finally having Brown-free Olympics, I am understandably incensed, particularly when it is at the expense of young talent. I dislike nothing more than the young and hopeful to be turned away, in a way that is blatantly unfair.

so much love and attention given to the skaters known primarily for jumps and without other elite quality skating skills. It goes both ways.
Everyone has a preference.

When a few quads are required to win, it matters. The casual viewer wants to see what cannot be done by others. It is always the case that there is so much love for skaters who seem to have everything but jumps that they are seen to deserve placement above others, even when the motto is Faster, Higher, Stronger.

Jason is beautiful on the ice, but if I want to see something with great emphasis on artistry, I would go see an ice show or a world famous dance company performance.

By the current standards, 1 or 2 quads should be the minimum requirement (for Team USA).
If "artistry" is special, 4 or 5 quads are too.

Ilia was never going to get PCS at the Olympics that would make him a contender for top 6 and beyond that it really doesn’t matter. It’s a two mark sport.

I realize Ilia skating like he did at the Warsaw Cup and then we lose really bad is best case scenario for some people but we aren’t going to fall for that.
