Jason Brown

Well, maybe the Forward got the Jan. 31 departure date right?

How are the ice dancers leaving? Is there a Canadian American Express?;)

So confusing:drama:
He could very well be travelling with Hubbell/Donohue and Chock/Bates - the former are still in Montreal at the minute from IG stories.

I am slightly confused by the move back to TCC just for one week.. I’m assuming he drove and didn’t fly because the COVID exposure... gahhhh!

He’s sure keeping us on tenterhooks!

I don’t know about the flight arrangements but since the team event starts Feb 4 if he’s not flying out until Jan 31 it does suggest he won’t be participating.
I think it’s likely he won’t be in the team event (to my sadness). The FS is now no longer the day before the individual SP so I could possibly see Nathan deciding to do both segments. If they do decide to split, I think Vincent’s higher place finish at Nats would give him the choice of whatever Nathan didn’t want, and I can’t see any athlete declining that opportunity for a medal.
I’d have loved to see Sinnerman one more time in the team, but it just didn’t seem likely ☹️

The only thing I can think was that staying in the US wasn’t planned but came about bc of Tracy’s positive result. And that maybe he’s mostly been working with Ro and that Tracy was just cleared and that they weren’t prepared to leave for China from the US. Otherwise it seems like an awful lot of extra stress and travel time, more exposure to Covid, and going backwards through time zones.

Well at least he’s double masked correctly now (with the N95 closest to his face) 😂

Like everyone else, the (slim) hopes I had for the Team Event are gone. Facing reality, it was always going to be Nathan and Vincent unless one of them turned it down; and of course, Sinnerman even once at the Olys is still wonderful.

It seems like a reasonable explanation that they could not re-enter Canada because of the positive test. Too much stress ... for Jason and for his fans:drama:

Yes that is TCC. Totally confusing. It kinda doesn’t make sense especially in view of the bubble others have referred to, but there must be a reason.
Maybe he'll be flying with Team Canada? I expect that Nathan and Vince will be doing Team. But China apparently doesn't want people entering piecemeal. But if he's back in Canada, he probably won't be traveling with Team USA. That could be true of the Montreal group as well.

Jeremy Allen is a jump coach, among other things. He's worked with Jason before. I hope that means that he was working on his jumps in Chicago. The delay in the US could well have been caused by Tracy's positive test. But it may have been planned. Eventually he'll talk about it, I guess.

Not sure, but I would guess that Jason would have to fly with Team USA and enter the bubble with them. I would be surprised if he flies with Team Canada; after all, they have their own athletes to worry about. But who knows. It’s also interesting to think about where Tracy and Brian fit in as to bubbles. I don’t know if coaches fly with athletes or not, and given that Tracy is Canadian and coaches a US athlete, and Brian is Canadian but coaches a Korean and a Japanese athlete (not sure if Brian is listed as Yuzuru’s coach?) it doesn’t seem clear how that will work. Stephane Lambiel is in a similar situation (he’s Swiss but has Deniss and Shoma). Time will tell but it’s getting to that time when we’re all impatient!

ETA one reason I think he’ll fly out of US is that all Team USA athletes need to go through Team Processing (completing paperwork, getting gear etc) before they leave and I think I heard that will be done in LA. I suppose it’s possible they could work with Canada to get that done but it seems unlikely. Who knows though - I’m frequently wrong about a lot of stuff! 😂

I assumed that he and Tracy were headed to LA. Apparently, I was wrong. They seem to be in Canada until the 31st. There are also 6 Ice Dancers in Canada who are from the US and need to get to Beijing. The first wave might just be the Team Challenge Participants. That would be Vince, Nathan, One or Two Ice Dance Teams and one or two Pairs Teams, plus Alysa and probably Mariah. Karen is probably traveling with them. So that leaves Jason and Jean Luc and Kaitlyn, who are probably all in Canada. If Jason is at TCC, he's not in the Team USA bubble. It's a puzzle.

I think I read somewhere that Team USA has 7 chartered flights.

The article actually says he’s arriving on Jan 31, not that he’s leaving Canada that day. 😊 Although it’s not 100% clear, I’m guessing that’s his arrival in China (not LA) because the article then goes on to say that on arrival he has to undergo a period of required isolation. I think this is true for all of the athletes (ie until they get negative test results). Anyway, we’ll see!

Yay! So glad to know that Tracy, Jason and Rohene have been working together and all are healthy!

Okay you guys, wanna know something funny? I had my very first adult learn to skate class at this rink, about 5 years ago.

On my first night, the skate shop insisted on putting me in rental skates the same size as my street shoes (little did I know then that you usually wear skates at least a whole size smaller than your street shoe size). I had hardly ever been on the ice before, and that first night I fell four times. 😂 None of the other beginners fell as many times as I did, and the teacher kind of laughed at me. I know she thought I was supremely untalented.

Another rink nearer to my house opened soon after I took that class, so I started taking classes there instead and bought my own skates in the right size. Fast forward a couple of years and my first instructor came to teach at my new rink. She was shocked at my progress. 😂

ETA @el henry, the rink is quite close to HP. Maybe a 15 minute drive.
Great story. I was an adult roller skater (quad skates) for 20 yrs - retired from skating in 2018. Competitive at the National level. I was a figure (on the circles) and dance skater. Team dance with my ex-husband as well.

Okay now I’m really confused. There is only one Team USA charter leaving Jan 27. So how will Jason get there?

I wonder if this applies to him even though he’s not competing outside US:

“The committee is also overseeing separate travel arrangements for U.S. athletes taking part in international competitions in other countries prior to the Games.”

My surmise is and has been, since Jason went back to Canada, that Jason and Tracy will fly with Team Canada on their charter. That would account for the different departure date. It's a much smaller group, so they don't need as much processing time as Team USA. If the Ice Dance Teams went back to Canada after Nats, they will probably be on the same plane. IAM has Olympians from France. Spain and GB as well. I'm sure the various Feds will reimburse Canada for the ride. Keegan Messing is an interesting case. He may have to fly independently from Alaska. Too far from LA and too far from wherever Team Canada is flying from, which might be Toronto. I have no information at all to back this theory up.

I guess we’ll see! I don’t know if flying on the Team Canada charter is a possibility for US team members. If not, it sounds like they will have fly on one of the temporary flights through a hub, such as Paris. I’m not 100% clear what a temporary flight is. But it sounds like you would need to take a commercial flight to one of the hubs mentioned in the article and connect to one of the temporary flights to Beijing. It seems like so much could go wrong though - more Covid exposure, missed connections, lost skates or luggage etc - that I really hope that’s not how he’s traveling.

This is interesting because Mariah Bell posted on insta last evening that she leaves for the Olympics in 4 days. That wouldn't be the 27th.

Oh my goodness who knows! 😂

So many possibilities…. I suppose it’s possible Mariah got it wrong. And I suppose it’s possible Jason misspoke in his interview or there was a typo in the Jason article that wasn’t corrected. Or maybe another charter flight was added but Bloomberg didn’t get notified. I guess only time will tell!

The practice schedule has been posted. Men start on the 1st. Team Practice has been posted but Team USA has not named the team. If Jason says he'll be arriving on the 31st, that seems reasonable. How he's getting there is unknown. Mariah posting yesterday that they leave in 4 days is the 29th. Maybe that's when Team USA leaves. Who knows? At some point, they will get there. Dates and times can change quickly in this sort of situation. And for security reasons, they may not want precise schedules floating around.

Sounds like air travel is going to be crazy for the Olympics. In this case I imagine skates and luggage will accompany skaters on the plane.
