there were no threats, and no criticism either - just people ridiculing her for the silly remarks that made her coach look like a complete idiot that doesn't know how to count points for the programmes
Can you expand on that the silly remarks? That's the 1st I've heard of it.

I'm glad there were no threats to SS but it was reported that way.

I dont see any reason for Akatyeva to be above them. Literally none of them were performing, they were all just trying not to fall. Understandable, of course. But so far none of these junior girls have taken my breath away the way Kostornaia or Medvedeva did the first time I saw them. I don't see anything special about Akatyeva yet compared to the Russian ladies that came before her. In my opinion she's got a long way to go before we need to hold her up as a PCS queen.
Akatieva is arguably THE PEAK of Russian ladies skating boom.
Next generations already seem weaker, young girls' physical capabilities just can't rise infinitely, they are human after all.

Well I agree that there will be a wall of sorts as there's only so much physically possible, but Akatieva is 14, so the "weaker" generation you are talking about aren't even eligible for juniors internationally yet so perhaps the crowning of Akatieva as the "peak" aka it only goes downhill from here is a little premature.

Plus, there's something to be said for peaking at the right time, see Zagitova for peaking at the right time and Kostornaia or Tuktamysheva for peaking at the wrong time. Akatieva has four years to go before she can compete at the Olympics, will she be able to maintain her current level for the next 4 years?

Are the covid problems at the training camp in the Siberian city great enough to just send the TT girld and other negative testing olympic Russian skaters onto the Beijing bubble now?

Also for those Russian skaters and all athletes heading to the Olympics that test positive but are asymptomatic shouldn't they just quarantine for 5 days and then resume their athletic activities?

In America we have a famous lady skier test positive for Coronavirus the other day. I am sure she is going to the Olympics to compete unless she has major symptoms.
It doesn´t work that way that you can just fly into Beijing and be quarantined and then be able to compete after 5 days. You need a negative covid test regardless, both going into the country and before going out of quarantine.

I think it usually takes a few days to test negative after testing positive with symptoms. No matter what time is running out on those testing positive is testing positive who planned to go to the olympics.

I'm sad they're all going through it.

Next generations already seem weaker

Dvoeglazova jumping two quads and scoring over 200 points at Junior Nationals at her age doesn't strike me as weaker generation..
No, Azikin, brakes is right - Alisa and Lyuba Rubtsova with her 3A and 3Lz3Lo, and Masha Gordeyeva with her 4S and 4T3T are soooo weak...

I've never said they are weak, I've said they are weaker than Akatieva.
Being on a peak doesn't mean there must be an abyss around you, but just slight descent...

I just don't see a package of technical/artistic/competitive talent of AAA-Valieva-Akatieva among +2008 Russian novices.
Zhilina has brilliant technique but lacking artisticism and competitive nerve, Gordeeva, Rubtsova and Dvoeglazova are good, but not as good as AAAVA imo. Gordeeva skating skills are average, her StSqs yesterday and today were level 2.

Speaking of Veronika, is there a chance she'll ever get better competitive nerves?

She's so talented and could "have it all" if only for those wretched nerves!

Or is she destined to be like Gracie Gold?

I mean she is still very young, or is it kind of telling if she's that nervous right now?

Are there any Nervous Nellies who developed nerves is steel later in their career?

ETA: Sofia A gives me the impression she could skate calmly through a blizzard. Her joy when she landed one of her difficult combos was adorable and admirable. My kid is not a sportsperson but I endeavour to teach him that kind of grit.

Akatyeva is clearly above the other Sofyas + Adeliya. She's incredibly consistent with crazy tech content and strong skating, she's pretty much a complete package and currently unmatched among juniors. She's like Kamila 2.0
I agree that she is not the most expressive rn but she's still very young and I'm sure she'll get better in that area with time.

Hmm, Akatieva is my favourite among them but I still don't think she was this good when she was 12.. ;) We'll see at RusNats 3 or so years from now..

When will they announce the skaters for team russia officially? Team Event is starting next friday…

Veronika needs to scale down her jump to where she is comfortable.

Once she stopped doing 3A in the short program everything was good.

Now she needs to do that in the free. Take out those quads and let her get comfortable with the triple jumps first. After that they can gradually include the quads.

It was visible she was far from ideal form at the junior nationals, even in the short program she looked very tired. I think going for three quads in the free was a very bad decision, maybe trying one and the rest just triples would be reasonable. At JGP Košice she skated relatively clean, so when she will be healthy I hope she can deliver.

Imho she outskated Kamila at 2020 junior nats. Kamila was going to junior worlds so judges went with her, but Akatieva's free stole the show:

I'm hopeful for the 2011+ group: Kostylieva was class of her own today, I also liked Bazyliuk's jumps: very high and effortless.
