2022 Olympics Team Event Day1: Pairs Short Program

If I'm M/G I'm VERY pleased with that result, even though they looked upset at losing to S/H.

Their technical advantage in the FS on the SBS jumps (especially with Sui's inconsistency on the salchow) keeps them very much a fave to win.

S/H bringing their 4Tw will be key and makes this a truly exciting event to watch. And then there's the likely battle for bronze between the other Russians. It's Pyeongchang all over again with battles for gold and bronze shaping up.

Canada... it's okay...I forgive you. Roseline Filion on French CBC says Roman was training super well yesterday and he practically never missed his quad salchow yesterday... the commentators mention Keegan being still in Canada...and they said they trust Madeline to be solid :)

anyways... out of here for now.. will avoid the fighting as a fan of both Sui Han and MG :) no need for me to watch the war of words :)
Cute, and naively optimistic for not even going past the top 5 (and they are reigning Olympic champions in the team event, how pathetic).

I don’t look at M/G as a junior team but this program does them no favors. It seems cheap and doesn’t show off their fine qualities.
Agreed. It's wrong to call them a junior team because the elements they execute are literally some of the best in the world, if not the best. Compared to Sui/Han sure they really lack sophistication (not that this program calls for that), but their speed and highlights are remarkable. Everything they do is difficult - one thing I particularly noticed this time is how close they get to each other in their step sequence.

I get S/H are the sentimental faves and I really hope they get their gold, but I'm not mad if Mishina/Galliamov win because they are just incredible athletes.

While I can't see the broadcast because the Czech TV decided it will be fun for me to watch our curling mixed pair being torn to pieces by Italians, it is funny to read the thread
It was live streamed on VK (Lets Watch Figure Skating)

Naw.

The US has overperformed, but the Russians are still pretty much on track. Their only real disappointment is a placement or two in Dance.

In order for the US to have a chance they needed a major mistake by the Russian men.

Agreed. TBH, this is where they could have been anyways had Mark done poorly and someone like Keegan competed in the SP and put distance between Russia from the US. Frankly they should count their blessings that S/K weren't placed lower in the team RD.

Might this mean Yuzu skates the free program?

I don't see why, Kagiyama is a very strong Free skater,
And I don't think there's a threat to their Bronze medal considering they're probably getting
18 points in the Women's event and CHN isn't

M/G have some truly stunning elements.

Stylistically, not my cup of tea. There's something inauthentic about that program.

Absolutely, preach it.

What's wrong with Nastya and Sasha's program? It's charming, it's light hearted and it's fun.

Why does skating have to be SRS BSNS programs for a team to get respect?

Nastya and Sasha had higher levels and harder elements, if it were anyone else but S/H the "Wuz robbed" would be off the charts.

Their levels are the same - all level 4s. Only difference is 3S vs 3T.

Nope, this is factually incorrect.

As long as USA places 3rd in Women (and assuming the placements repeat in the LP), they win the event.

Canada in real danger there, Madi needs to bring it and then it's up to the Italian and Chinese Women
