2022 Olympics: Men's Short Program

Probably dumb question, but what determines the starting order for the short program? Got my bf to watch with me and somehow that's the first question he asks 😑😂

Usually they separate them into groups by World ranking then have a draw.

@anonymoose's simplification is true only for the final two groups.
ETA:
If by "groups," we're talking about warm-up groups.

Not true for earlier [ETA: warm-up] groups. Example:
Milyukov of Belarus is #80 in World Standings, and he will not skate until Group 3 here.
Whereas Sasha Selevko of Estonia is #27 in World Standings, and he will skate in Group 1.

The full draw procedure is explained on pp. 91-92 here:

(Go, Sasha! 👏)

Alright, good opening 4T+2T, bit of a scratchy 3A, but a heavy step-out on a leaning 3Lz. Spins had some trouble with the centering and the footwork could have more speed and depth.

everything is there for Lukas if he just puts it together, good job overall.

I seem to remember past Olys where skaters who really weren't likely to make the podium would perform with such joy at simply being there, on that stage. Now it seems like so many of them are carrying an invisible weight. Is that weight solely from dealing with this blasted pandemic?

I feel like an earthquake hit and a bunch of people are hanging out in a homeless center watching figure skating.

My TV which I also have on just replayed the short track 1000m final the Hungarian dude was totally robbed, the Chinese guy literally pulled him over to get ahead!

Ahem sorry.

Back to Estonia. Poor Alexander keep that shoulder safe!
