2021-22 Russian Women's Figure Skating

Something unrelated to the current drama not sure if anyone else has mentioned this, I have a logical rational reason for the Fed not substituting any skaters for the team event - Vincent's situation, he participated in the team event then tested positive and was forced to WD from the individual he could not be replaced because he did the team event. If any of the athletes test positive over the next week there's a smaller pool of athletes that are ineligible for replacement with an alternate for the individual event.
I think it's far more likely that Russia stuck with the same line-up because they wanted the strongest skaters to secure gold after the USA overperformed in Day 1. I can't imagine the expectation was that several figure skaters could get caught doping so Russia wanted to minimize the number of skaters ineligible for replacement. If doping was that widespread, the replacements would just as likely be at risk of testing positive.

Do you mean test positive for covid? That's what I was referring to

Statement officially happening at 10pm EST according to CBC *I'm assuming this is okay to post Mods if not, please delete:

EDIT: this was apparently just the standard IOC presser, some journalists have asked in the Q&A but got a long winded 'no comment'

I just hope whatever happens that KV has the proper counseling around her to help her handle this disastrous situation. It has to be so confusing for her about this trace sample. She needs her parents in China as soon as possible to be with her.

It's also possible a doctor prescribed this for her because athletes worked their heart so hard it may be like the Maria Sharapova situation although KV is a minor and maria was about 30 when she failed that drug test.

I would like to learn more details about what's going on.

I've read somewhere that Kamlla is at practice.

Yes and she looks fine. Without any speculation, this gives some relief.

I'm somewhat surprised by this. It's confusing just like everything else but I would have thought the ioc would have asked her not to practice until some decision has been made on whether she is banned or not from the Olympics. Maybe they will just say proceed as normal because everything is under review which could take days or weeks

Kamila is only 15 and her name has been smeared. I am hoping because it was only a trace sample of a banned substance and not a normal fail drug test that that will help her as well her age and being a minor and not an adult. I do wonder like many others what adult is responsible for this. Is it a doctor who legitimately gave her a prescription or did somebody put something in her food or drink? We may never know.

I also hope this girl has the proper people surrounding her who can help her through this controversy.. she is only fifteen and the world is about to come down on her we have outraged and all of that.

Please let us know how her practice goes. Again the most important thing is the mental welfare of this fifteen-year-old minor. I hope there are people who can advise her and help KV no matter what the ioc decides.

I don't want to talk more about the issue publicly before any official statement.

Let's hope an official statement and some of the confusion

Right now Kamila is practicing and I guess she will have a normal Practice Day unless she gets pulled off the ice.

To prevent someone from training would be abusive.
Let her at least have a window of normality where she could just do what she loves and forget the world spinning around her.
No matter what I stand on her side here.

Okay, not sure how to phrase this so I wouldn't get an infraction, so let me try: Does anyone know when we will find out the decision on the issue that we shouldn't discuss? I thought someone said yesterday it would be at the same time as the Men's FS, but nothing so far. Has any time been officially appointed? Thanks.

I pretty much feel the same way you do.

I guess KV had a good day of practice. Are we expecting any more news from the ioc today or before the ladies competition in a few days?

It was assumed that the official statement will be made at the IOC briefing today at 13.00 Beijing time. In fact, the briefing (or press conference, as some journalists put it) started two hours earlier, at 11:00 Beijing time.

During the briefing (or press conference) the following topics were discussed: 1) weather report; 2) the quality of television broadcasts; 3) the situation with the coronavirus.

After all of this question about subject which is interest for you was asked to Mark Adams, IOC Press Officer. I will not disclose the content of Adams' answer here, because I do not know to what extent his words can be considered an official statement.
