2022 Junior Worlds: General Info

Translated from Match TV:

THE JUNIOR WORLD FIGURE SKATING CHAMPIONSHIPS HAVE BEEN MOVED FROM BULGARIA. THE TOURNAMENT MAY TAKE PLACE EARLIER THAN MAY.

According to Match TV, the Junior World Figure Skating Championships, previously postponed due to the coronavirus, will not be held in Bulgaria.

The tournament was postponed due to the difficult conditions of entry into the country, as well as due to the increased quarantine for Covid-positive cases. According to the source, several countries have expressed a desire to host the tournament. Russia is not one of them at the moment. The deadline for applications for the competition expires on February 23, the decision on the possible postponement of the competition will be made on the 24th at a meeting of the Council of the International Skating Union (ISU).

Also, the source of Match TV noted that if the transfer to another country can be carried out, the tournament is likely to be held before May. Earlier it was announced that the Junior World Championships would be shifted from March to May, but many coaches and athletes opposed this decision. At the moment, the most likely option is to hold the championship in April.

The Junior World Championships were to be held in Sofia from 7 to 13 March.
Aww, no 3 Sofias in Sofia, but hurray for the countries willing to step up!

Fingers crossed for April and some place with flights available for me lol.
I still want to make myself a belated bday gift of seeing juniors (and maybe sneak some gifts for them, too, in continuation of 2020 Junior Worlds flower crowns).

i can tell you that it will not be Canada... ISU world track senior worlds have been canceled in Montreal due to the simple fact that a quarantine of 2 weeks is needed for all athletes without vaccines or vaccinated with shots not approved in Canada... for short track speed skaters, that nixed all Russians and Kazakh athletes because there was just not enough time to organize a quarantine for them. Worlds synchro may be in jeopardy as well. I cannot imagine junior worlds meeting the appropriate criteria either and in the meantime, crossing fingers that Worlds synchro will be held.

Does anyone know when we can expect the announcement about the new location?

From the article above:
the decision on the possible postponement/relocation of the competition will be made on the 24th [February] at a meeting of the Council of the International Skating Union (ISU).

We'll probably get the decision together with the RCF junior division entry lists. ;) :p

We know they have applications, just not who… and it’s not me obsessively checking for the ISU-promised update today.

RCF coming across as expedient and transparent though… almost worth it!

As previously announced, several Season 2021/22 ISU Championships are currently under review due to the Covid-19 regulations and restrictions applicable in the allotted host countries, namely the ISU World Short Track Speed Skating Championships 2022, the ISU World Synchronized Skating Championships 2022, and the ISU World Junior Figure Skating Championships 2022. Due to the new situation in Ukraine, which may have an impact on the holding of Championships and the travel of teams to attend Championships, the Council needs a few more days to assess the situation before taking a final decision. These decisions will be communicated as soon as possible, ideally during the coming week.
