Roman Sadovsky

Just wanted to mention how much I enjoyed Roman at Worlds. Beautiful 4S but be had to fight for the 3A and the combo in the SP. The audience applauded his beautiful spins. He looked so.determined in the FS. Loved his musicality, flow, and ice coverage. I forget how tall he is, and he looks even taller in person! The 3A seems problematic for him, but he was able to hold things together. Love his gorgeous camel spin. Glad he was able to end his season on a high note, and I hope things are even better next season.
 
Since Roman wasn't invited to perform at the Worlds gala (which is unfair considering that he was the top Canadian man at this event), I thought I would finally share his "I Won't Give Up" exhibition number from the 2021 World Team Trophy. I wasn't able to do so last year because the ISU's archived livestream for the WTT exhibition gala was geoblocked for Canadians, so I couldn't download the video. Fortunately, an acquaintance recently provided me with the full video, so I cut out Roman's performance and uploaded it to Streamable (Dailymotion wouldn't accept the music).

I have had this thought on my mind since the Olympics. Do you guys think Roman needs to change his coach?

IMO he needs to go to s1 who has a good amount of experience of training & preparing athletes at an elite level. I feel like time is not really on his side & there is only so much opportunity to gain momentum and establish oneself. It hqs to be s1 who knows how to pace the training to make the athlete peak at the right time & could help psychologically. I have Brian Orser in mind as a prime candidate. The thought of Roman going to Brian feels even more entertaining when one consider that Brian is known as an axel whisperer.

Roman had briefly trained with Brian Orser when he was a junior-level skater; it was for most of the 2016-2017 season, but by the time the 2017 Junior Worlds rolled around, he had already switched back to Tracey Wainman. I doubt that he would ever return to Brian because their previous arrangement clearly didn't work out.

I think drastic changes are required in terms of Roman's training regimen and seeing a sports psychologist because his jump inconsistency hasn't improved at all since I began following his career over 5 years ago. It may be a case of him being too comfortable with his current environment, and he needs someone new to shake things up, who has a different approach that could help him to become a better competitor. He has said that he'll stick around for one more Olympic cycle, so if he does decide to modify his routine, now would be the best time to do this. However, he seems extremely loyal to Tracey, so it appears highly unlikely that he'll seek a different coach, unfortunately.

I don't think Roman would want to leave his home at this point but yeah, those are the two coaches I can see Roman working with.

Roman competed in a Skate Ontario sectional competition recently but only the short program, which skaters often do if they need more conditioning for a full competition or the free isn't quite ready, etc so it doesn't necessarily mean he had to withdraw because of an injury. Here's the results page: https://skateontario.org/results/23AUG/index.htm. He came in first place in the short with a total of 85.51 and landed a 4s, 3a, and 3f2t with a ! for the flip (he also had a fall deduction but none of the elements indicated a fall so it must have just been a freak fall outside of any elements). I remember he used to do a 3lz3t in the short but I've looked at a few past competitions and he's been going for a 3f3t instead lately. Maybe it's a more consistent combo for him now despite the risk of an edge call? He has had the weird lutz issue we saw at last Nationals too, that may be a part of it.

Roman is in first place after the short at Nebelhorn with a score of 89.57! Also interesting to note, now he's using 3lz3t in the short again instead of 3f3t. You can watch it here:
