Belbin + Agosto and Davis + White were simply AMAZING. Personal best performances from both!!

Terrific dance event!

I'm bummed that they didn't show Summersett and Gilles. According to the results page, it looks like they placed 4th in the free dance.

Wester and Barantsev- I'm glad they got a chance to skate a clean program and are starting to get on track to really begin their international skating career together. Good luck to them. They're so cute.

Samuelson and Bates- Fluid and fantastic bodyline and very impassioned. Too bad about the fall but they have a lot of time to develop. They are making me feel great about the future of US ice dancing.

Navarro and Bommentre- so glad that they are able to make their first trip to Worlds. They were incredibly sexy, earthy, and mature. They are both so expressive and communicative in their face.

Belbin and Agosto- Elegant, fast, difficult, very polished and refined. They deserve their 5th national title and I hope they can make a strong push for the top of the podium at Worlds. They are tremendous competitors and athletes but for me, I feel that even with all the emotion on their faces and strong attack in their skating they aren't soulful.

Davis and White- I am sooo happy for them. I thought this last year- the way they are able to develop and learn and change within the course of a season is amazing. They had a slow start but look at the way the music was re-edited and the choreography re-arranged. This FD is now one of my favorite ones this season if not my favorite. It has shade and light- tender moments and stark dramatic ones and the closing pose where she moves out of his arms- wow!! It will be wonderful to see how they develop over the next few years. They have the potential to open up even more emotionally on the ice. And as opposed to Tanith and Ben I just feel that there are more levels to the connection that they have between them on the ice. More shade, tenderness, and dark. I liked it when Dick said that it was sexy- because it was!!

Great event!!!

Yeah, I noticed that Mr. Button was more captivated by Davis/White's performance. I think he alluded to all those shades (tender/dramatic moments)you've pointed out. I liked it too. Wow, things I hoped they'd changed, were not only changed but were greatly improved + more. Wonderful performance. Once they get more time with this new choreography, their PCS should go up more. Don't hold back at Worlds, Meryl and Charlie!

the performances from belbin/agosto and davis/white were amazing

davis/white extremely improved and intensified - those twizzles scare me hahaha

but don't you guys think it's a bit over scored?
109....and i thought dom/sha's 104 in euros was over scored....

but i discovered my new favorites: Samuelson and Bates  unfortunate fall...

It's Nationals. I actually expected the score to be even higher!
Right now, I think those two are genuinely the best ice dancers in the world. If they skate at Worlds they way they skated last night, the judges might even be forced to acknowledge it.(Yeah, keep dreaming.)

Both Davis and White and Belbin and Agosto were beautiful. Both skated thier best. A great competition. The only thing I did not like was Tanith's lipstick.... way to red, but that's nitpicking. Davis and White get better each time i see them. So glad that at least they can go to worlds. Elenor Rigby is a beautiful freedance...and the really seemed to have chemistry this time.

I definitely think Belbin + Agosto were over scored (I would have only ranked it very slightly higher than Davis + White) but it was still amazing and their best ever anyway.

haha lipstick yes she should've chosen shade #30 from chanel rouge...yeah?
haha
the things i don't like about their FD:
their 2nd to last lift....boring straight line lift - no innovation
and their last lift - nice hold on the first part ben....

as for davis and white...i was shocked...super emotional and connected

I definitely think Belbin + Agosto were over scored (I would have only ranked it very slightly higher than Davis + White) but it was still amazing and their best ever anyway.

yeah.. a bit over board....but it was a good skate...D/W too

I think the US is so deep in ice dance right now. I did hear the announcers say last night that after the 2010 Olympics, Tanith and Ben will retire. So I am going to enjoy these last two year with
them.

Also, the tv announcer said that with Tanith and Ben scores they are looking at a gold medal at worlds and Meryl and Charlie with thier scores are looking at a podium finish? How accurate is this statement?

I agree with you about how deep US ice dance is right now- from the juvenile/intermediate levels all the way through to juniors and seniors. It's so much fun to watch and I enjoy it more than the other disciplines.

While I like Tracy Wilson, she was doing that old Nationals pump the skaters up commentary. She said the same outrageous things at Canadian Nationals about Tessa and Scott.

And while I'm crazy about all the North American teams- they have a big fight on their hands at Worlds. Starting with Tanith and Ben, I would be really surprised if they managed to win Worlds. I think they will definitely be on the podium. Also, as much as I enjoyed their FD at Nationals, Davis and White will have a hard time making the podium. If they manage to get 6th place, they will have done an incredible job. I think it's more likely that they will place 7th possibly 8th depending on how everyone skates.

Of course, I want to be surprised and blown out of the water so if Tracy's predictions come to pass- I'd be ecstatic.

Yeah, Uncle Dick and I think alike.

I agree - sorry folks, but I don't think Belbin and Agosto have any chemistry when they skate nor do they feel the music - I also hated her black nail polish - looks a little cheap. Davis and White were much more in tune with the music and each other.

I like these two teams, but one has to keep in mind nationals inflation. Belbin/Agosto's FD score was around 107 which is WAY higher than anyone has scored in any international competition in ice dance in the last several years. About 100, 101 is considered an excellent international free dance. So even Davis/White's scores (I think, if memory serves about 103-104), if given internationally would wipe away the field. While all nationals events tend towards inflation for their champions, the U.S. is usually one of the biggest inflators, so to speak, and I think that's what we see here.

That said, I do think B/A will be fighting for the gold this season at worlds, even if they won't see a score anywhere close to 107. However, I have a feeling that top podium spot has been reserved for the Russians.

Yeah, right now for Worlds I'm predicting:

1. Russian team #1
2. Belbin + Agosto
3. French team
4. Virtue + Moir
5. Davis + White
6. Russian team #2

Samuelson and Bates are the future!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm sorry but I think there programs challenged the likes of Davis and White and Belbin and Agosto, technically of course. Their PCS were low but that is to be expected considering it is their 1st senior competition and they will rise with time. Expect them to be higher next season :)

duuuuuuuuuude i know!
i love them
i agree with the US commentator - they are as fast as the other team but they are technically super!
they work with their music
and i love how charismatic both are
all i see from evan is his huge smile, even after the fall!
i don't like their first lift though....covers evan's face....not flattering but her position superior.
if they didn't fall i would place them 3rd
i've been watching their program on repeat on tivo....

p.s. their costumes are a bit....stereo typical figure skating....i'd prefer to see something toned down...sleeker and more romantic

Yeah, right now for Worlds I'm predicting:

1. Russian team #1
2. Belbin + Agosto
3. French team
4. Virtue + Moir
5. Davis + White
6. Russian team #2

realistically i agree,

but i hope the french push further.

I thought Tanith & Ben skated their best EVER; they were absolutely terrific. As far as the rest of the top 5 -- extremely good technique and some nice stuff here and there, but overall I have to say I just didn't find the FDs all that interesting as a whole. There's a lot of talent there, I just hope they find better vehicles.

During the NBC broadcast, a commentator said that B/A was ranked number 1 and that D/W were ranked number 5. not to be rude or anything, but in what world was she talking about? I figured that either the french or the russian team (most likely them) was number 1 and that D/W would be at the most ranked 6th. Were they talking about ISU rankings.

To put my two cents in,.... This was my weekend to work at the hospital ( I got the evening shift) so the only bit of nationals that i saw was the free dance during my dinner break. the free dance by S/B made my evening. I was blown away! they were mesmerizing.

cleopatra20042004, I think Tracy was going by the final placements from Worlds last year.

B&A finished third while D&W were seventh. If you take into account that Denkova/Staviski and D&L are not competing this year then B&A would become the top ranked team from Worlds and D&W move up to fifth.

I've read on many message boards how amazing S&B are and I don't quite see it. Don't get me wrong they are good particularly technically but their FD wasn't the best of the night IMO. Not in performance and not in choreography. I much preferred N&B; that FD but admit that without the mistake S&B could have overtaken them on the basis of the difficulty.

I do think that S&B have a bright future but I just don't see them plowing over the competition. Especially not B&A or D&W.
