what a hole this leaves in the sport of figure skating.

a truly once in a generation skater. i'm not entirely surprised, although i thought we'd see him one more season. i wish we were. but i'm glad he will still be skating in shows. congratulations Yuzu :thank:

Thank you, Yuzu, for so many wonderful years of skating & all those "Pooh-valanches!" I loved the rivalry between him & Javi, and how was supportive of his fellow training partners. All the best to you as a professional skater! 💕 🇯🇵 ⛸️
But I missed some request from him of his fans not to show this extreme, hostile and not sportsmanship-like behaviour against his rivals. Shoma Uno did this e.g.

Yuzuru is what made me become a fan of figure skating back in the 2014 Olympics. I’m not surprised that he announced it, but still sad. But he’s basically the GOAT to me. 2 Olympics golds. Super Slam. I’m glad I got to see him at the FP for 2016 Worlds. Even though he wasn’t perfect there. He’s an absolute legend and I hope he has a great time skating in shows.

Hopefully his toxic fans retire from the sport with him, I have said it before they made me look forward to the day he wasn't a competitive skater any longer.

I do think the retire and be a professional skater is phrasing that doesn't need to be referenced by anyone any longer, most of the skaters especially at the top are "professionals" ie making money through skating long before they retire.

As someone said before, this is not a Fan Fest. Yet this remark of yours is truly toxic indeed.

Well I've never booed a skater during a podium because they beat my favorite or vandalized an arena because my favorite didn't win..if you think its toxic to hope those people leave the sport now that their favorite is retiring...I'm good with that :)

Relax. He has had his time in the limelight and then some. Turning the page always keeps it interesting and fun. And sport is supposed to be fun right……

No. I think it is toxic to hope a skater retires because you do not like his fans for whatever reasons and hold it against him. I think it is toxic to feel it is necessary to share this satisfaction on the day when he has actually announced the end of his competitive career. I understand you probably not share this opinion and I'm good with that still I'm gonna stick with it ;)

Yuzu has been competing as long as I've been a skating fan, it'll be weird for me not seeing him in the gp series, worlds, etc. Will forever adore his 2012 Nice FS...

Thank you Yuzu!

I didn't say I hoped he retired, I said I hoped his toxic fans would retire with him and they (his toxic fans) made me look forward to the day he retired.

I’m a huge fan of Yuzuru. He’s the reason I started watching figure skating beyond just Olympics. He was a huge inspiration for me pursuing my own sport. But he has some of the craziest fans I’ve ever seen and I’ll be glad to see them go.

Anyone whose first thought is about (*only some* and a small portion) of the Hanyu fans, rather than the 🐐 retiring....

well, too bad, so sad, my first thought is that a figure skating legend has retired and deserves all the accolades he will receive.

And sweet summer children, *every* skater has toxic fans. Do you want to hear what certain fans of another skater said about Jason in January? No you do not. :)

Best of luck to Yuzu in his future endeavors! He improved the sport immeasurably.
