Ppl are complaining about JSF's arrangement for CS men's entries, and it's the same for women's side :( . Now I also don't get why JSF doesn't arrange any woman's competitor for Nebelhorn, but putting Kaori, Wakaba and Rinka together at Lombardia. And the only CS left on JSF's list is Finlandia. I do hope Mai will at least get one assignment (but what about Rino? and if JSF will sent Rion also, there's less of a chance that Yuhana will get one.... :()

Well, I'm one of the loudest if not the loudest 'ppl' criticizing JSF's atrocious non-assignments this year. :p It's like they are working against their singles. Mai, Rino and Rion absolutely deserve to be sent. I'm hoping they'll do as they did last season and send someone to the later Challengers in Austria and Poland not listed in their original plan, but who knows. Fingers crossed for Yuhana as well, she's my favorite Japanese woman.

JSF actions this year make zero sense to me, Challenger-wise. So far, they're sending their (Nationals placements) #1, 2, 3 and 6 to CS in women, and only #5 and #10 in men. Dismal as the treatment of the top 10 women is (with just 3 remaining to be assigned, actually, with Satoko retired and Hana and Ayumi on JGP), I trust you'll agree that what they're doing to their men is even more revolting (with 7 seniors currently unassigned). So no, it's not the same situation, the men have been way more ignored than women so far. If #2 Wakaba goes, so should #2 Shoma. If #6 Rinka goes, so should #6 Sena, etc.
ETA, I'm still holding out hope that both Yamada skaters (Rino and Sota) will get picked to go to a Challenger together, but TBH that hope is dwindling with each new CS assignment announcement with JPN singles absent...

Mao shimada was perfect today 😍 wow 71 points in her first junior grand prix 😮, she is ahead for almost 10 points, I hope she has a good skate tomorrow with that difficult program (3A and 4T), I'm sad about Ikura, that fall :( and I think judges were hard with her, she lost technical points for unders that I don't saw, I hope she recovers in the free 🥰

Yes that was :points:
Was it Mao who kept her short from last season? Because it is really polished while it's still early. That might have helped too.

Without any Russians, Mao will be the best Junior skater for the next few years. With her lead, she can comfortably take risks with her 3A and 4T tomorrow.

Yessss gold for Mao with an almost perfect program and 141 points wow! A pity for the fall on the quad :'( but everything else was perfect, and yesss Ikura Kushida medaled!!! Her program was so beautiful, she needs to work with the quarters and unders tho, She deserves another jgp :'(

The Japanese junior ladies are representing! So far Yoshida has my favorite SP so far and I really enjoy Mao’s free skate. Hopefully either Shibayama or Kushida gets a second JGP. I was charmed by Shibayama last year at JNATs so I especially hope she snags a second spot. I think there’s room for it.

And CS. I can't believe we're not going to see Mai, Rino and Yuhana elsewhere than GP after their great to good achievements last season. JSF needs a wakeup call. Both their juniors and seniors are important, and they need events abroad.
Considering the timing of Kanto, Chubu and Tokyo Regionals, I'm guessing that Yuhana, Rino and Sota and possibly Yuma and Shun OR Rion and Kao will be sent to Finlandia Trophy (if the fed is not planning on Nepela Memorial)
Participating in an earlier CS event would allow these skaters exemption from competing at their respective Blocks (Yuma seeded) however, their coaches would need to take time away from students who do need to compete in order to qualify for Sectionals
And with many coaches recently switching camps, staff at many clubs may be limited

Nebelhorn is too close to Tokyo Regionals (again for the coaches) so it makes sense for Wakaba and Rinka to be sent to Lombardia
It's important for these two to get out since Wakaba hasn't competed all summer and Rinka doesn't have a GP
Also should mention that Nakaniwa (Rinka's coach) will be with Ami Nakai for JGP Riga until 10, Sept which is why Lake Placid CS was not an option for her
As for Rion, though she could use the points I'm okay with her not getting a CS event
She's been competing way too much domestically for comfort. I would hate to see her injured before her Senior debut
That said, if she's not sent to Finlandia Trophy she would need to compete at Tokyo Block (same for Kao Miura)
Still, another competition at home will likely be less stressful for her (and her team) than one abroad

Kaori and Mai are the only assignments (or lack of) I question
Rather than Kaori at Lombardia, not sure why she, Mai and Tatsuya Tsuboi were not sent to Nebelhorn Trophy
Nebelhorn is a couple weeks before Kinki Block which is close but the coaching team at Kobe Club is solid and established enough to be able to divide between a Challenger and preparing for Regionals

Not sure if Sena withdrawing from two summer competitions affected his chance for an early CS event
However, if Yuma declines Finlandia that would open up a spot for Sena
Kinki Regional is scheduled for the same week as Finlandia
Team Nagamitsu will have a lot of skaters participatng at Block however, I'm sure they also have enough coaching staff to send someone abroad with Sena if need be

As usual, Shoma will likely receive an event between Nats and Worlds

Sorry for being off thread topic (like my last post in the Japanese Men's thread) by including my thoughts on the guys

While the discussion about CS assignments & Japanese domestic competitions is on-going, I'll set up a section for Japanese domestic competitions (general information for regional/sectional) under 2022-23 Japanese National section.

Note that JSF has published the list of exempted skaters. And a MAJOR change by JSF this year is that: a total of 8 skaters from Jr. Nationals (men & women) will be invited to All Japan Nationals (instead of only top 6 in the past). By doing so, it's going to cut-down the numbers of Sr. skaters qualifying via regional/sectional....

JSF List - seed skaters & exampltions updated Sept 5

Seed skaters:
Sr. men - Shoma Uno, Yuma Kagiyama
Sr. women - Kaori Sakamoto, Wakaba Higuchi, Mana Kawabe
Sr. pair - Miura/Kihara
Dance - Komatsubara/Komatsubara; Muramoto/Takahashi
Jr. men - Nozomu Yoshioka
Jr. women - Mao Shimada, Mone Chiba (Rion Sumiyoshi is not seeded due to moving up to Sr.)

The following skaters are exempted to the required regional/sectional competitions:
Tokyo B - Rio Nakata (JGP#6)
Kinki B - Takeru Amine Kataise (JGP#7)
Eastern Sectional - Rion Sumiyushi (GP-FRA); Shun Sato (GP-GB); Kao Miura (GP-CAN)
Western Sectional - Rino Matsuike (GP-USA;GP-FRA); Rika Kihira (GP-CAN); Yuhana Yokoi (GP-CAN)
Sena Miyake (GP-USA); Katsuki Tomono (GP-FRA); Sota Yamamoto (GP-FRA)

*Notice anything special? Except for seed skaters (and Jr. skaters), none of the sr. skaters get exemptions to the regionals so far...

:ot: , sorry!

Tsuyo, don't be sorry, it's solace to me to fantasize that maybe JSF come to their senses and send skaters to Challengers yet. I enjoyed reading your thoughts.
Just a correction, Kagiyama won't be at Finlandia for sure, as he's at Japan Open at that time.
I think it's important for all women, except for Kaori, to participate in a Challenger. In terms of points, those pay really well, and if some get that option, it's not fair that others are only sent to the more competitive GP. So for someone like Rion, no, I am not okay with her not getting an easier event than a GP.
I'm still hoping JSF shows some compassion to their CS-less skaters, and assigns to both Finlandia and the later CS, Austria and Warsaw, like last year. I know they've not been announced officially, but hope dies last. If Rion isn't at Finlandia, she won't get any CS unless they miraculously assign to Golden Spin, as there's no time between France and NHK, with travel taking longer (intercontinental travel especially). But for Yuhana, who has Skate Canada only, a later Challenger would be ideal. Since you mentioned the men, the same that goes for Yuhana also goes for Kao, Sena and Honda. No need for them to be in Finland, it would be way better if JSF reconsidered with the later CS. Sota and Shun, OTOH, have no other choice but Finland, and Tatsuya could only do Finland or Warsaw.
I still keep my fingers crossed for Mai and Rino in Finland. Rino especially, she's lower than Mai in WS.
