I realized today that it is really the end of the 3A (Aliona Anya Alexandra) era.

Sasha T is still here? She did her SP yesterday! Although I did read she was injured...is she not here today?

And hooray time for FD! Some very intriguing costumes here.

I’m behind on this. Just watched the women. I did watch some of the men live (from Mozalev on), but I want to watch the rest before I post my thoughts on the men. I’m “ranking” the ladies’ SPs as follows:


1. Valieva: I agree that thematically this SP is not much different than Storm and whatever it was she was skating to last season, but the way she skated is not. This is the first time I enjoyed watching her. I especially like the step sequence - beautiful movement of the body - and the final spin.

2. Petrosian: A very, very close second. I originally had her first. She’s cute as a button and listens to her music. I like this little lady a lot and hope to see more of her.

3. Muravieva: She reminds me of Usacheva, which is a good thing. Musically expressive, dramatic, but not over-the-top. She needs to tone down the arms, but other than that, I liked her SP.

Tuktamysheva: Her SP isn’t good; it isn’t bad;it’s just…her.

I thought the bottom three were mediocre or worse.

5. Akatieva: Pretty, but there are hundreds of pretty programs out there and hers doesn’t stand out among them.

6. Trusova: Her SP is similar to Tuktamysheva’s, but she’s absolutely not Tuktamysheva so it falls very, very flat. She just comes off as awkward, like a little girl playing dress-up and pretending to be her mother. Just not a good program for her.

7. Samodelkina: The weakest of the bunch. The music cut needs to go in the trash can and she looked as if she were about to fall after every spin. I didn’t like her SP at all.

In other news I forgot Australia internet is a butt and started to download something and now the stream is dying. I missed the second couple entirely!

I am so happy K/B did a modem upbeat programme for their FD. I really like them but have never really loved their FDs whereas this one I can get on board with. Shows their personalities.

Im holding out hope for Shanaeva and Drodz too. They’re still new as a team but both have a lot of talent and seemed to have gelled well based on their RD yesterday but we’ll see. I was gutted when S/N broke up so hope this partnership lasts - I think Shanaeva is such a delight to watch.

From the first group K/A were so good! They deserve to leapfrog ahead of a bunch of teams this year!

K/B were ok but I expected more from them. I preferred Mironova's Medusa FD from two years ago to this.

Can't believe Zhulin is using Rachmaninoff again already...

Yes I agree. She is such a beautiful dancer to watch. I really enjoyed their RD yesterday. I was gutted too..
