The score sheets show it wasn't a super clean skate for Roman unfortunately (http://www.deu-event.de/results/Nebelhorn_2022/CSGER2022/index.htm), he got negative GOE on the first 4s, fell on the what was supposed to be his 4s1eu3s and got a +rep (but he managed to do a 3lz1eu3s on his next jumping pass to get all his combos), popped the 3lo, got a wrong edge call and negative GOE on his 3f3t and 3f2t, and it seems he had some spin mistakes, which is very unusual for him. But combined with his lead from the short, it was enough for bronze.

I like his Chasing Cars program but I agree, I'd like to see something new. I wonder if maybe they had to change the new program based on feedback at High Performance camp and it wasn't ready in time for Nebelhorn? He said on twitter that he's "excited to go home and make some changes [to the FS] for Skate America" so hopefully that means a program change too.
Also thought it wasn't ready.
In addtion it was nice for him to have his own "revenge" with Nebelhorn and Chasing Cars. It wasn't perfect this year either but much better than last year when he had so much pressure fighting for the olympic spot.

I found myself rewatching this SP several times over the past week. Indeed it's a bit of a stylistic departure from recent years but it really works! Roman's languid fluidity matches just as well with bluesy rock as it does lyrical programmes.Roman is in first place after the short at Nebelhorn with a score of 89.57! Also interesting to note, now he's using 3lz3t in the short again instead of 3f3t. You can watch it here:

The problem with him skating in the US is that even with a great clean skate like he did in his challenge event will probably only put him in 5th or 6th place. And with even one minor error he could find himself in 9th or 10th place.

I can see what you mean, though this one gives me more indie/country vibes. Interestingly Roman also did a Gary Moore SP in his JGP days (2014-16, timing suggests some inspiration from Yuzuru).

He didn't get the combo in unfortunately so he lost a lot of points there (a lot of men had that issue for some reason), but I really enjoyed it despite the jump mistakes.
