Well that is great news! They sound evenly matched as far as their approach to skating - looking forward to seeing them compete. Wondering when that opportunity will be. Nationals?
I don't think they can just go to Nationals. I think they'd need 3 international assignments ,although I think one automatically qualifies you for sectionals...so I'm guessing that is what will happen. They do one international then skate at Sectionals.

Rules with pairs are often odd in the US, when we have very few pairs.
I’m not shocked.

Confirmation of a new pairs team for the US: Ellie Kam and Danny O'Shea

@elhenry just saw your post in US Pairs thread that they'll be competing in Austria. Perhaps the IceChallenge in Graz, which I think is part of the Challenger series for Women, Men, and Dance but a non Challenger for pairs?

Just got curious, I could find entries for the non Challenger part but only junior entries, no senior pairs at all. Very weird. Maybe they just forgot to include them or they ran out of post-its.

Just confirming for you - yes, they are competing in the Ice Challenge in Graz this week:

5 partnerships representing 5 different countries. @Andrea82 - is this enough for the Pairs to now have Challenger Status, or count towards minimum TES's or anything?

EDIT: This message was originally posted in the wrong thread. I clicked on the wrong el henry post in the search results, and only realised I was actually in the US Pairs thread after I clicked "post reply". :palmf: :slink:

Sorry for any inconvenience caused.

Yes for minimum TES and World Standing points
For minimum TES it is enough 2 entries from 2 ISU members.
For World Standing points in Pairs, it is 5 pairs from 3 ISU members. So barely, but yes, it would count if there won't be withdrawals before the draw.

Challenger Status is given by ISU before the start of the season. So I don't think they can change it now. It should remain a Senior B (and falls within the "other international" categories) like Pairs event at Lombardia Trophy.

If I didn't want to click, could you tell me who TJ is and what discipline and country he skated for?
I didn’t click either but I’m assuming it could be TJ Nyman, who skated pairs for the USA on the junior level years ago and hasn’t competed since AFAIK (despite the attempt to pair up with Savchenko)

Edit: I was incorrect.

Just updated. Tj carey, us senior ice dance with Caroline (not sure of last name would have to look it up)
Looking at the Dance Final results at Eastern Sectionals, his partner was Caroline Depietri. They finished 7th in the Dance Final missing the cut to Nationals.

Jenni Saarinen announced her retirement after the FS at GP Espoo

A more in-depth interview: https://www.skatingfinland.fi/henkilot/jenni-saarinen-jattaa-jaahyvaiset-kilpajaille/

From Google Translating the article, she achieved all her dreams as an athlete after attending the Olympics and has been struggling with motivation since then. It seems she is currently coached some younger skaters and is interested in doing more choreography in the future.

Good luck to Jenni in the future!

This news has made me very emotional, because Jenni was the very first skater that I made a Fan Fest for.

But, I am glad that after competing for all these years, she finally got the chance to make her Senior GP debut. And that she got to do it in front of her family and friends at her home rink.

It feels like the right way to round out a long and successful career.

Jenni, it has been a rollercoaster of a ride, but thank you for everything. I wish you all the best for whatever the future holds.

It has been an honour to be Jenni's adoptive father on here.
