2023 European Championships Women's Short Program

In the past, that would have indeed been the case, but they switched it around this season.

I only know that because Ted was very adamant about pointing that out before the ice resurfacing in every single discipline at Canadian Nationals.😁

Ah, I didn't know that the positioning of the resurfacings was something that was actively changed in the rules for this season. Thank you for pointing that out.

:thank:

Good question, actually. The time needed would be the same. Would the judges and the audience prefer to watch groups of 5 or of 6? 🤔

That has always been my argument for having fewer skaters in groups so that there is an even number of groups. The increase in length of the competition by having one extra group would be minimal.

Then again, a WD in a group of 5 would be more noticably felt.

Good point. We've seen competitions this season where there have been 2 or 3 withdrawals from a group, leaving just 2 or 3 skaters.

I think it is because people from school and work can make it here. And originally there should have been 6 groups but because of withdraws there is only 5. Btw those are real zambonis here.

That is a good theory, except that it is actually stated in the rules that the target is to have 6 to a group, particularly in the final group. Because in previous seasons whenever I have said something about the format of the groups, a particular American member would come on and shout at me, saying that "the rules state" such and such.

Well I was prepared and it seems the panel is strict with anyone (if they continue with that), so I don´t feel so mad about it. Glad she has the minimums indeed, it´s always difficult to achieve them at Championships.

Actually the technical controller is from Norway, so you can be sure there isn´t any biased judging here :laugh:
I must admit, I'm always unhappy when Championships scoring is particularly stingy and strict because there are so few opportunities for skaters to improve on their official PBs and SBs.

Chris, would you quit giving spoilers from yesterday! I haven't watched any of yesterday's action yet, and can't get the mute on quick enough! :drama:

This was a good skate from the Latvian and I think the very first clean one.

However I have to say that I hated her music. Unfortunately the more I watch FS as of late the more I miss "no lyrics" rule.
