Ladies Short Program

Korpi does not deserve to be in 4th. Sarah Meier skated flawlessly and is behind her??? And I thought Kimmie should have been ahead of Korpi, too. To the average viewer, it is obvious that Kimmie was robbed, big time. This scoring system is mystifying and probably still corrupt.

Very strange judging indeed...Korpii and Meissner's rankings were definitely a surprise.

I want to believe it is not corrupt judging..., but for sure big part of the problem was that skaters were a bit to spread out (except for the penultimate group, were the 6 skaters could be compared better)...

I don't know what to say, but to me the whole thing started being strange when girls like Marchei started getting really low marks...

I have the impression it is a bit like GPF...very strange judging in the SP...hopefully it will revert back to reality in the LP

Perfectly said... I am sorry that she is not in the top 6. Unfortunately being in the second best group means getting lower marks automatically....

Well, she still got the third highest pcs of the night. Take into account that her solo triple was salchow as well. She was fairly marked.

When Korpi does well in the SP she usually bombs the LP...so I figure she'll be lucky to stay in top 10. Meissner should be in top 5...crappy judging. And Ando, who fell, she should be in 10 or lower...

Any idea where I can get a reply of the top 10? I don't get anything live.

Korpi is a very consistent LP skater, she never bombs or skates totally clean, she always misses one or two major elements. I wish that for once she completes all her planned jumps tomorrow, only to see what kind of score she'll get. I think she's capable of 115+.

You can pull a very few off of YouTube already. I watched Liang's and I am more confused then ever. She looked pretty good so begin behind Meissner by 5 points with all of Meissner's flaws really confuses me!
I think Liang was rushing a little in both technique and interpretation and it seems as though the judges started off being super sensitive and then gave up and gave high PCs for stepping on the ice!

Yeah I just got home and read through this whole thing...Korpi 4th?! What world is this? She should never be ahead of Rochette, and especially from reading all your opinions.
I want Kimmie to do well for her sake (and the USA's) but she was never that much of a striking skater. I am much more bothered by the fact that Bebe is behind Kimmie with such low marks. She had a dynamic short program. I thought the days of holding spots open were supposed to be over.

Wow I havent seen the Short Programs yet but from the pbp and the score all I can say is WTH? Im happy for Kiira but shocked as well. I am soo dying to see the programs. Im happy that Kimmie, Bebe & Ashley did well:clap: but not happy that they are soo low:frown:. Im really hoping they can pull something out to give the US 3 spots. Go girls!! Its a shame Yu-Na fell. Im soo sad about her injury. I really expected to see Mao, Yu-Na & Miki battling for the top 3, so this is really a shock for me. I was also hoping Joannie was going to do the triple/triple. Sad for Laura, I was really excited to see her do a good SP. Im excited for Yukari:rock: Man from the sounds of it Miki needs to pull out that quad and Kimmie needs to bring out the triple axel. Dear Lord. And the scores are weird for Pairs as well? Eesh.

Hurry up ESPN Im dying to see the programs!!

Thank you guys sooo much for the pbp!!:clap::agree:

Nice that you all are bashing Kiira without even seeing the short programs. What dosen't Kiira have that Joannie and Sarah have? What more does Kimmie have at the moment than Kiira has?

Please someone tell me.

I know you're a fan of the Finnish ladies, but Sarah had superior interpretation and Joannie skates with more power. Something about Kiira's jumps bugs me, too - they have a bit of a "stalky" quality I think. And I have seen the programs.

Turkish TV is doing highlights so I finally get to see Yukari! Every raves about Mao's basics, but Yukari's are just as good I think. I would be very happy to see her on the podium, especially with those gorgeous spins.

Thank you. I hope ppl wouldn't snark and bash until they actually watch the skate. Not that snarking and bashing are to be encouraged:p Kiira was beautiful and beautifully skated today.

Joannie's jumps are technically precise. Her edges are correct (Lutz), and she doesn't cheat and her midair position is tight.

She also glides on the ice: Her spirals are to die for.

Well, Sarah had salchow as her solo triple, I guess that cost her some points. And Joannie had some unclean landings, didn't she? Kiira hit her jumps and got the planned levels tonight when others didn't. I am not saying she is better skater than Joannie or Sarah, but she was delivering tonight.

Also, Sarah's superior interpretation was reflected in her higher pcs than Kiira's. IMO, Joannie's pcs should've been higher though. What happens on the ice determines the placement. Mao and Yu-na(aside from the fall) also made a few careless small mistakes that led to low levels on spins and spirals.

Kind of random, but I love Kimmie in the higher bun. I think she parted her hair a little to far over but the bun is much higher than it usually is and I love how it looks on her.

I've seen the short programs and Kiira's skate was nothing special. She was slow on her footwork. She kind of ran out of steam at the end and finished slightly behind the music. She skated right after Sarah Meier, who skated flawlessly. It was mystifying to say the least to see Kiira place ahead of Sarah. And Kimmie skated very well. From an aesthetic perspective, I much preferred her program to Korpi's, not that aesthetics matter much anymore.

I heard that Kimmie's flip was ur and several of her spins recieved level 2. As I said, Kiira hit her jumps and got the levels right. When protocols are up, I am sure levels will very clearly tell why Kiira beat Sarah too, who had beautiful skate.

Even if you don't like Kiira, you can't say something was especially wrong with her skating. Her basic skating is sound, her jumps are ok and done with proper teknik, her spins are fast and centered. Steps are complecated and go well with the music even if she is out of steam. She has good program ans is always polished from head to fingertips. Just saying, with COP you can't say "yeah she hit all of her elements but i just don't like her... skater x was definitely robbed!" . With COP, protocols will tell the story ;).

And skaters from 3-9 are basically tied, so placements don't matter that mutch.

^Asethetics still mater in determining scores, especially in GOE. The perfect example is Sasha Cohen. Aesthetics also explain why Miki Ando received lower PCS scores last year than Kimmie M, Yu-na, and Mao. I haven't seen Kimmie's program but from a jump perspective (which accounts for most of the technical score), I find it hard to believe that she is aesthetically pleasing. Kimmie has always looked like she fights for every landing. To me, that isn't nice to watch.

After watching both Mao Asada and Carolina Kostner's SP at Worlds, I just don't understand the placement. I thought Mao skated very well. Carolina, takes forever to set up her jumps, which has always bothered me about her skating plus her spins were not as good as Mao's. Personally I think both Mao and Carolina skated with very close to the same speed. If I were judging I would have put Mao ahead of Carolina.

Dizzy

Now I know you werent talking about me, cause I said I was happy for her, yet suprised. The reason I was suprised was due to the fact that she usually isnt that high in the standings(previous 2 Worlds 11th after SP), compared with the others. If you look at my what do you wish for at Worlds http://www.goldenskate.com/forum/showthread.php?t=20653&page=2 I had hoped both Kiira & Laura would do good. My boyfriend and I always root for Kiira when she competes. You need to bring your anger at others down a notch, just because they say something that you dont care for. For years Ive listened to people bash my favorites because they thought someone was better/should gotten higher marks/etc. Everyone sees things differently, we arent all going to see everything the same way.

It's up on You Tube. Have a look. Her jumps looked solid. The Eurosport commentators said she nailed her flip. But what the heck, they're only the commentators! I like Kiira, but seeing her right after a flawless Sarah Meier--and then seeing her get a higher score--was jarring.
