Ideas for Davis & White

I love this team and I'm really enjoying watching them coming into their own. It's not as smooth a ride as Scott and Tessa- but I think they'll be all the better for it in the long run.

Some ideas:

Music from The Illusionist soundtrack- the movie is a beautiful romantic period piece about a magician played by Edward Norton and his reunion with his childhood sweetheart. The movie is beautiful to look at and the score is wonderful. Classical yet evocative with this dramatic, mysterious driving quality but a lyrical lightness all at once. I think they could portray the "story" of the movie quite well. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VIhF77Tg9gs

I also really like "Fable" by Robert Miles- I remember hearing it on a trailer from the Drew Barrymore movie from awhile ago Ever After. The song itself is like a modern techno version of a fairytale. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4ThGdl5iQ14

The two choices above are kind of dark- maybe a little too similar in tone to what they did this year so here's a still classical but a warmer choice. Ferde Grofe's Grand Canyon Suite- Sunset and Finale in particular are very grand and soaring. It would capture the really free, fleet quality that they have.

Something truly classical like Mahler's Adagietto or Tchaikovsky's String Serenade is something they could really grow into a couple of years from now.

Modern yes, but not dark. They are not suited for Dark, they just are way too young yet.

They need to do something a bit more Light to start with. But something I insist that has a purpose and a meaning. Not a stupid program made of tricks that are linked without any intention.

Another idea : what about Prokofiev's Peter and the Wolf ?!
Meryl could play the wolf (the bad wolf would be nicer if there are any Doctor Who fan out there:biggrin:) and he could be that poor Peter

I want to see them dance to Robert Palmer's "Simply Irresistible", with Charlie playing Robert, and Meryl playing one of the mannequins.

Way too obvious and easy. They have to switch roles

HAAAAAAAAAA ! I know. They should skate to the Doctor Who soundtrack with Charlie being Ten and Meryl being Rosie

i

that comment about her being dark and mysterious while he being "boy next door" brought to mind pochohantas and john smith. i think they could do somthing great with that theme.. maybe to the music from the new world. West side story would be very good, but perhaps to overused.

.

Nicely put! The contrast in their complexion and hair is a site to see. She's got such a unique beauty.

The best they they could do is leave Igor and get out from underneath B/A.

Love this the Elenore Rigby theme as well

I absolutely love that movie and the great music by the amazing phillip glass. A stroke of genius that they should skate to it! I am now obsessed with this idea.

Exactly. But not Nine although I loved him. The relatioship between Ten and Rose would be way more interesting to use, and the music is just fantastic !:agree:

So, anyone know some choreographers they could do well with?
Also, dedicating some time to the basics this summer would definitely bring them far ahead of B/A, and I think they're better already anyway.

An idea for Davis/White: GET NEW COACHES.
Either that, or don't allow Igor to have anything to do with choreography; nothing.

Did he choreograph Elenor Rigby? of course the beauty of this program is how Meryl and Charlie skate it, but i think the chreography works beautifully with the music and for them. The OD, while not my style, is very cute and fits them well. I really don't see any coaching/choreographing problems happening here at all. The only problems davis and white have are not being noticed by the judges. do not ask me why!

Well, D&W are the 2nd team from their country. Navka & Kostomarov were 7th until Lobacheva & Averbukh retired...then suddenly they were World champions.

And I think V&M's rise was accelerated by Dubrueil & Lauzon's retirement.

Yes, but having the same coach as the no.1 team can be a bad thing, especially if the coach pays more attention to the team which they think will perform better. D/W
may het less attention from their coaches as compared to B/A and V/M.

I'm not sure if that's exactly true. For example, if you look at the Chinese Pairs skaters in Olympics 2006 who won 2nd, 3rd, 4th all have the same coach: Bin Mao.

You can share the same coach and yet work with different choreographers !
That's what the Zazoui's team have been doing for years, as well as the Skotnicky's !
And that's really all they need. Their technique, as all Shpilband's teams, is superb. Deep edges, knee bend and all that. They need a style, a vision.

D&L said they took a year off, but I doubt very much if they are going to return to competition, and it's even less likely with V&M doing so well.
