Ladies Long Program

Yuna got a +1GOE from one of the judges for a popped lutz? must have a pretty good one..:agree:

She didn't get a +1 for a "popped" lutz, she got it for a "single" lutz. It doesn't matter what the skater intended to do; you have to judge the element she performed. If it was high and had good flow in and out, it is deserving of a positive GOE.

Very, very European here - so that was sarcasm. I just feel a bit tired about these conspiracy ideas, that started before the competition even started. And no, the Americans were lucky that nearly everybody had a dismal skate today - the three Americans together fell 5 times and got 7 underrotation calls + 5 edge calls. They don't deserve better placements, (except maybe better than Korpi, that girl was lucky that she was skating in the last group) but I have to say that both Kimmie's and Bébé's performances were enjoyable and I hope that Kimmie comes back really really strong.

Sorry i am by no means european, infact i am from different continent all together. But i have been living in europe for last 2 years

I remember Mao got positive GOE for popped 3A last season.
Was it a single axel? Landed? Clean? Big?

I didn't see it, so I don't know which instance you're talking about, but if it fit the descriptors above, it's worthy of a +1.

A skater shouldn't be double-penalized if they pop a jump and it's still a clean jump.

Yu-na is just as slow as molasses. To me, she eased out almost all aspects of her skating, whether it is transitions, spins, steps. Does she deserve a bronze over Nakano? I don't think so.

Yu-Na was slower than her usual standards, but not slow in general as she is usually one of the fastest ladies out there. Yu-Na WON the free skate, so why doesn't she deserve the bronze? And as much as I loved Yukari's performance tonight, she just can't afford to under-rotate those jumps which are so costly under CoP. At least she got the 2nd highest PCS of the night.

You hava a point there.

Popped (single) jump is usually big and clean-landed.

When all is said and done, the casual viewer (potential fan) will see the following in Nakano's skate:

1. best performance of the night
2. loses a place (3rd to 4th)

Not good.

But they should be double-penalized for slight underrotation??? That's fair?????
Yes, because the jump isn't clean. A popped jump is usually simply a single jump -- a clean single jump. If the skater gets all wonky in the air or something, then, yeah, it should get a negative GOE.

Oh, please. Don't even start. Do I have to say Mao got a +1 GOE from one of the judges for her flutz? And Yukari got a -2 GOE for her spin?
Do you want to keep going?

When you have a silver medalist with only 2 clean jumping passes, what more can you expect with a judging system like this? It didn't exactly help Yukari that the technical panel was very strict on rotations, and that 10 out of the 12 the judges were European.

Isn't -1 GOE deduction mandatory for wrong edge?
How come this one judge gave +1 on Mao's flutz?
Can they give + GOE if everything else was great except for the wrong edge?
Congratz to Mao, Kostner, and Yuna anyways..

Hopefully, next year, Americans medal (Home advantage maybe? Haha) :)
Also, I hope Miki and Yuna recover soon.

And why does that not apply to other skaters, like....Joannie?

Congratulations to the medalists. I was so happy for Yu-Na, she really fought out there.

Yesterday I was so impressed with how many of the pairs skated but today was very rough for the ladies.

Ok, maybe you didn't get the point...
Kostner had the highest tech mark base, it's not like the points came from nowhere...and she got positive goe just for the initial jump, steps and spiral.
All of the spins are Zero Goe except one.
Even the loop and the axel received no and negative goe respectively (had it been Kim or Asada you would see now a positive goe laying down there...)

I see the same number of hands down as you, and they were rewarded with
-1
-2
-0.86
-1.57

no, can you please answer if this is not fairly recognized?

It really bothers me people judge by reading the feed that viewers (kindly) report on the board. And also don't go and see the program with a notepad before talking...

I need to double check the vedio. I'm under the impression that Carolina under rotated the 3T in the first combo and the 3T in the 2A /3T combo. I think the judges tend to look more closely at the skaters that have a reputation of under rotating their jumps. For the ones that don't do it often it tends to be overlooked when it happens.

Wow! I really don't know what to say.
I'm really happy for Yuna coming back strong!:love::love:
That was absolutely beautiful, breast-taking.
At the same time I'm really sorry for Yuna for her PCS!!!! I just don't understand...
She shouldn't be behind Caro. She just seemed so wobbly and sloppy.
I know she finally did kind of clean program but still.... the quality is just...
Oh well.

Thank you! After nervewrecking LP I really needed some comic relief!

Mind your spelling:rofl::rofl::rofl:

I don't know, I have to check. The first looked fine to me on the replay. The last one I would have to check.
I think your observation on underrotation and judges is true. It also happens for edges in jump takeoff...

I think Medusa meant she is european...

That's what Medusa meant. Well, actually Medusa is a monster from the Greek Mythology. But I am not that monster, I just stole the name. It's late here - I am talking nonsense...

Mao's skate was wonderful and deserving of the title. Loved it, I don't think that she seemed like Plushenko in Torino.
