2023 World Figure Skating Championships Where Are You Watching?

I feel like I'm revisiting the "good old days" when I had to search for results in the sports section of the newspaper... that part with the tiny print and the box scores of baseball games on it.

Some of my fellow old people know what I'm talking about.

Oh yes, I know! I used to cut them out. I still have many in a old photo album.... You know the old kind with sticky pages? lol They would list the standings with the factored placements score. Gosh, showing our age!

I see I can consider myself lucky. My country's national TV has arranged WC coverages like every year, will archive them (geoblocked for other countries, sadly) since they're on the linear channel and not only on their parallel livestreams, and the lengths look promising. I guess they're making up for zero 4CC coverages.

Its like they dont even know the World Figure Skating Championship is about to happen!

This made me smile. I was flipping through the TV channels offered by Verizon last night and there must have been six different channels devoted to the NCAAs, in which I have utterly no interest.

We can’t have even one that shows skating, like the old Universal Sports used to do?

You got me to thinking...skating peaked 25 years ago...it was bigger than Basketball...if it would have peaked today, there are all these media platforms to watch it..and you of course could have a "figure skating channel". So did technology and its causing shifting interests and interpersonal skills kill skating? Did it kill performance art? Is an attention span dead? I personally have never enjoyed watching sports, save the techno geek sport of Aircraft pylon racing..and that live....but it is clear from Peacock and rabbit ears that many people...maybe most people, like to watch ...maybe men more than women but certainly women also....

I use Nord VPN, any idea which countries may work to watch the ISU Youtube stream? I assume many European and Asian countries will be geoblocked.

I've been having very good luck with watching ISU YT channel "from the Netherlands." Enjoy both livestream and replays. With the time difference, I'll be doing a lot of replays for Worlds so I'm really grateful this is still an alternative.

Fellow oldie here. I am also recalling back when the TV Guide would arrive in the mail box and I’d scour the next week’s listings with a fine toothed comb to see what new series episodes, specials, movies, etc. to watch. No VCR’s, DVR‘s to record back then. If you missed a show, you were SOL unless you might catch it in reruns during the summer!

ETA: I just checked the figure skating listings on Peacock and they are now showing a “World Feed” listing for both the Men’s and Women’s short and free programs that starts earlier by a couple of hours than the regular Men’s/Women’s short and free programs also listed. IIRC, he World Feed has no commentary, but the regular one does.

I am so old I remember people listening to baseball games and the Indy 500....I am this old...ESPN did figure skating

I am a little confused but I will get on peacock tomorrow and check it out....the normal Womens short, for instance, was listed last time I looked as starting on Peacock at the live in Japan time. I will look for World Feed.

I didn't subscribe to Peacock because it's worthless to me if I can only watch a competition when it's live.
But if NBC and USA can't be bothered to show ice dance even during the World Championships, I guess I'll have to subscribe for a month and hope that replays will be offered for a few hours after the event, at least.

In this case USA stands for USA Network which is available on cable/satellite tv and also available to stream on youtube tv, Sling tv blue package, fubo tv, Hulu+ live, and probably other streaming platforms. If you want to see the entire competition I am fairly sure you would need to watch Peacock World Feed or Peacock without World Feed. In other words, and probably much simpler, DO NOT watch USA. USA is only going to show a small part of the competitions much like if you are watching on cable tv.

In this case USA stands for USA Network which is available on cable/satellite tv and also available to stream on youtube tv, Sling tv blue package, fubo tv, Hulu+ live, and probably other streaming platforms. I would also add that there can be an upside to the USA network -- they will sometimes show parts of comps that aren't available on NBC so if you're depending on network coverage to view skating -- or just want to supplement your streaming viewing -- they are at least good for that. They might only show, for example, the 2nd and 3rd groups of a discipline, but it is better than no network coverage if you can't or don't want to access a stream. Also during Four Continents, they had some coverage, and Adam Rippon was one of the commentators. He was fun to listen to so when their coverage overlapped with streaming, I sometimes switched to them to hear a different perspective.

I’ve got that used to events starting on the Thursday that it didn’t cross my mind until there now that the World Championships might be starting earlier in the week. And, sure enough, they are starting tomorrow.

Yes, that paragraph was copied from the Europeans post. But it still holds this week!

As well as LIVE coverage of everything on Discovery+, there is also substantial coverage on the linear channels, both LIVE and in the form of highlights.

As we have experienced on previous occasions with events from Asia, the LIVE coverage on Eurosport’s linear channels doesn’t start when the day’s action begins. It starts later on, sometimes for the final groups of the opening segment of the day; sometimes for the start of the closing segment of the day.

The two Pairs segments don’t have any LIVE coverage on British Eurosport, but there are highlights on straight after the subsequent segment finishes it’s LIVE coverage. There is LIVE coverage of the Pairs FS on BBC Red Button, though.

As ever, the BBC only has coverage of the Free Skates, all of which will be on their Red Button 1 channel. They also have a highlights of the event on BBC2 on Sunday.

There is no coverage of the Gala on any of the linear channels. But there is on Discovery+.

Canada. And if the ISU youtube stream is blocked, CBC streams events as well, and has replay for a while after the events. Problem is it can be hard to find the CBC replays. Sometimes I can't find them listed on the CBC site, but the original streaming links (posted on GS) continue to work for replay.

I usually watch on Youtube instead of CBC, because I can pause youtube, or rewind, if the stream or I am interrupted. CBC doesn't have pause or rewind during the original streaming.

If there is somebody from Slovakia. Probably most of us have some access to the Czech TV (let's say legal for now ) So almost full coverage of Czech TV with their experts. Great news!

Also who has linear Eurosport channels (Czechs + Slovaks) there will be full coverage of Men and Women (with replays and partial live coverages for Pairs and Ice Dance) with czech / english commentary as you wish.
Furthermore, on Eurosport Player of course everything with ISU commentary (Mark Hanretty probably, as on Youtube)

For Slovaks, there is also full coverage without commentary here https://www.rtvs.sk/televizia/live-o or here https://www.rtvs.sk/televizia/live-rtvs . If you are not from Slovakia, just set your VPN for it.
Slovak TV linear will have not only later groups of Free Programs, but first time in history I believe also later groups of Short Programs with commentary etc.
