2023 World Figure Skating Championships Pairs Short Program

Well, so far, based on how things tend to go with scoring in fs, I can see what the judges are doing. I don't have any complaints. Obviously, PCS is always scored as a range, which means it's never completely based on individual skills of separate teams. Placements one thru five are very close for a reason.

The Hungarian team stepped up really big here. They still need aesthetic improvements but they were technically the best so far, and I agree with how the judges balanced their overall score. Efimova/ Blommaert would have been in first had Efimova not fallen on her sbs jump. I can see why E/B were given the highest PCS score. But Efimova has inconsistencies in her skating. I don't know if it's due to nerves in competition, or to technical improvements she needs to make.

Ellie/ Danny have the second highest PCS, which is fair. They are very well-rounded and polished aesthetically, so should be right there with E/B. It's a conceit that Russians should automatically be given high PCS. (I'm referencing Efimova -- I realize that Blommaert is German. They make a good match overall, but as with every new team, they need time to get better together.

ooo Hektor GM's brother studies ballet!
That makes a fun connection with Ruben Blommaert (his twin brother Sander was a dancer with the Royal Ballet, now teaches)

My kids have been on a Mario Kart kick the past week or two, so your cat gif made us laugh. It does look like that! I just think if they're going to have 5 groups they might as well do 6 groups and let 24 teams through. That stray single group then resurface again seems like wasted opportunity.
So that's you?
