Really curious to see what this means for JGP assignments with the new teams of Lavrova/Rogers and Pedersen/Chen. If they are as good as they should be on paper, then there are 6 JGP assignments to split between 5 or 6 teams (L/R, P/C, Bland/Sperry, Ilin/Cain, Epps/Gilman, maybe Mullens as well) and certainly some of those teams are expecting/hoping for two assignments. Will be interesting to see which teams get squeezed out.

The USA has 14 spots, right?

Guessing the top 3 from Jr Nats will all get two assignments (Neset/Markelov, Carhart/Horovyi and Hauer/Starr), which leaves eight spots to be distributed between all of the rest of them - Peal/Peal, Bland/Sperry, Ilin/Cain, Lavrova/Roger, Pedersen/Chen, Epps/Gilman and/or Mullen/Mullen.

All but Carhart/Horovyi and Bland/Sperry are going to compete here, so I assume USFSA is going to have a close eye on the results, and make some choices already.
Probably are going to start by giving five teams one assignment each and then go from there. Give them a second if they medal (or come close to it), if not, see if another team could use the international experience and is putting up similar scores.

I'm guessing that the top 4 teams from Jr Nats last year (Neset/Markelov, Carhart/Horovyi, Hauer/Starr, Peals) will be getting 2 spots each, unless ofc one of those teams really shows a disaster at Dallas Classic or Lake Placid in two weeks.

That leaves 6 spots for everyone else. Really curious as to which teams will end up with 2 spots or none at all. I agree that Dallas Classic will clearly be a very important competition for deciding that. Lake Placid in two weeks will almost certainly be a key competition as well.

The senior combined RD has concluded at Dallas Classic. Bratti/ Somerville withdrew. I wonder why -- injury or strategic?

That leaves Wolfkostin/ Tsarevski in first, with Flores/ Desyatov in second with a lower score than it would seem they deserve. But, it is the very beginning of the season and apparently the beginning of a battle between these two teams, along with a number of other mid-level, up-and-coming teams in seniors. Ling/ Wein are in third. The scores are accessible via icedance.com website, or through usfigureskating Dallas Classic results.

ETA
Detailed protocols are now up, which helps explain some of the low scoring.

I wish we could see videos.

Expecting several teams to be added to the ISP in the coming days now that this competition is over. Junior Grand Prix spots have definitely gotten more interesting with competitive scores from two new teams and a team returning from injury. I wouldn't read into Bratti/Somerville's withdrawal. For all we know, it's possible they weren't even in Texas these past few days. They may have signed up for this competition ages ago, thinking that they would need to start their season earlier to get the Skate America host spot. Then, they surprisingly got two Grand Prix assignment and didn't need to compete so early at a domestic competition.

Next big competition is Lake Placid in both juniors and seniors. Another case for junior teams to make a case for the JGP and senior teams to make a case for the Skate America host spot.

Wait - Jeffrey Chen is skating as a junior again? He's just short of 22 yrs. Or is it a different Jeffrey Chen.
Yahli Pedersen, Ann Arbor FSC
Jeffrey Chen, Peninsula SC

While Katerina is skating as a senior (of course) with a much higher score. And didn't Jeffrey break the partnership up? Hmmm.
Katarina Wolfkostin, Peninsula SC
Dimitry Tsarevski, Peninsula SC

Jeffrey is skating junior with a new partner. This is his partner's first time competing in partnered dance. She was the 2019 Juvenile Solo Dance Champion. This is his last year of junior age eligibility. It is definitely the smarter idea for him to stay junior with a new partner to help her adjust to partnered dance and to get more opportunities to compete internationally.

Katarina and Dimitry are competing senior, but they are both junior age-eligible. In my opinion, they should have competed junior for more competitive opportunities. They scored well at Dallas, but their best-case scenario would involve earning the Skate America host spot and getting 2 Challenger events this season. If they went junior, they probably would have gotten two JGP assignments and have a good chance at contending for the Junior World podium, considering all top 4 teams at Junior Worlds last year turned senior this year, which is a better way of earning World Standing points and guaranteeing two senior Grand Prix assignments for when they did go senior.

He's currently 20, about to turn 21.

But how does USFSA look if a team that skated one full season senior internationally (with senior appearances the last two years at nationals and a challenger series event back in November 2021) splits and partners go back down to juniors?

Genuine question here.

Anyone know the status of Molly Cesanek / Yehor Yehorov? They withdrew from US Nationals for personal reasons, at least in part because of everything Yehor was dealing with, with his family in Ukraine. I hope they come back if they wish to. I really like them and am hoping that MIDA will help them.
I have followed C/Y since they were juniors and they were my fav up and coming team in Seniors! Yes, she had posted on IG a while back about their withdrawal from Nationals. I follow Molly on IG and I recently asked her if she & Yegor would resume skating together. Her answer to me was that they have never stopped skating together 🤷‍♀️ She also has just recently posted a pic of she & Yegor together with him kissing her and many people have congratulated them! So I’m assuming this means they have come out now as a couple. What the future holds for these two…..I have no idea. But I sure will miss their skating!!! They were so beautiful to watch ❤️

I'm a bit confused. If they never stopped skating together, why aren't they on the ISP?

They're still together romantically and skate together, but they likely are no longer actively training for competition. C/Y disappeared from the list sometime in the spring, and there is no reason for USFS to take Cesanek/Yehorov off of the ISP unless C/Y have vocalized to USFS that they don't plan on competing for USFS this season.

While their last season's results weren't great, they still had a season's best of 153.03 which is near identical to Koncius/Shchepetov's season's best of 154.03 and only slightly lower than Ling/Wein's season's best of 158.52, and both of those teams are in the ISP. Thus, C/Y could not have been removed because they fell below the standard for the ISP, since teams with the same record as them are still on the list. The only reasonable conclusion is that they asked to be removed, either to pursue competing for a different federation, take a break for this season, or to retire from competing. Whatever their choice, it's been fun to watch them competing at US Nationals and I hope that they find success and happiness from whatever path they choose in the future.

Good question! I’m just as confused as you 🤪

I happened to check Molly's IG after I posted my question about them and saw what looked like an announcement that they're a couple. So happy for them! Very glad to hear that they're still skating. That was actually the info I was looking to find but couldn't find on her IG. LOL I'm wondering if they're considering skating for another country, such as Ukraine, but I haven't read anything confirming that. I could understand if they would want to pursue that route; the already-competitive US Dance landscape has gotten even more so, and I worry that duplicating - not to mention surpassing - their previous accomplishments could be tough, even with the switch to MIDA. And a smaller fed might give them more opportunities to compete internationally, although Ukraine in particular does have other teams. I will miss their skating and am crossing my fingers they'll reappear somewhere but wish them well either way!

^^ That's Ivan Desyatov, @dancelion21 and @ZeldaJo21. I hope the spelling error is not like that on the ISP listing. 😏

Follow Isabella & Ivan on their Instagrams, if you don't already, to get interesting clips and stories detailing their partnership journey. 👍 Bella, especially, posts regularly on Instagram, and she's good at it.

Meanwhile, both RD and FD photos are up on Figure Skaters Online site for the top finishers at Dallas Classic 2023:

Check out the lovely FD photos for Pederson/ Chen. Photo-wise, they look like a good pairing. 😊

It's also interesting to see pics of Lavrova/ Rogers; Flores/ Desyatov; Wolfkostin/ Tsarevski; et al.

I'm wondering though why FD program notes updates are so slow in coming for Dallas Classic competitors whose programs had not been previously announced?
