I think, Sofia have some kind of agreements with the federation of Kazakhstan, otherwise the idea has no sense at all - why go where you were not called.
Because it's the country she has maternal connections to and will have no issues with otherwise potential citizenship problems.

Maybe the Kazakh fed reached out to her, or maybe she reached out to them, but yes, there was obviously communication there, as the Kazakh fed is the one who has to formally request her release.

Did she get the actual transfer already and can compete this season? or just talks right now? Looks like the last time she competed internationally was 2021.

Honestly its inevitable that some skaters will want to skate for another country so I think Rusfed have been expecting this. Davis/Smolkin who transfered to Georgia just won Lake Placid so hopefully same success will happen for the others because I think the Russian ladies even the midlevels are competitive internationally.

It makes sense for her to go to skate in the ISU I even wrote it here several months ago.

With her growth spurt she lost all ultra-c so it is not possible to compete in the Russian national team, no chance of medals apart from a domestic GP stage medal. Maybe Kamila is the only one who could survive no ultra-c assuming she can keep her components strong.

But if you eliminate ultra-c, she's a very good skater and can compete for medals at ISU level. The new age rules help large skaters like her as well.

This would have happened regardless of the ban.

Потому что это страна, с которой у нее есть материнские связи, и у нее не будет проблем с потенциальными проблемами гражданства.

In Kazakhstan, it is believed that figure skater Sofia Samodelkina renounced Russian citizenship.

In particular, Olzhas Besbaev, executive director of the Kazakhstan Skating Union, spoke about this. Today it was reported about the possible transition of Samodelkina to the national team of this country and that the athlete had already received a Kazakh passport.

“I do not have this information, but it is illegal for us to have two citizenships. Most likely, (Samodelkina) renounced Russian citizenship, I think so. Lena Rybakina refused, I tell you exactly. By law, we have one citizenship, not like in Russia.

She has not officially contacted us. We did not write to our colleagues - this is not the case with skaters, we were interested in them, so we turned to them. Here she applied civilly.

That is, most likely, either her mother or one of her closest direct relatives was born on the territory of the republic, so they received it in a simplified format.

Our federation has been divided since July, while bureaucratic moments are going on, we just come out here as performers, until July Samodelkina and her representatives did not contact us.

We have good relations with Alexander Ilyich Kogan, if there was something, I asked directly. We will follow the established procedure, there is no need to force anything,” said Besbaev.

I'm glad she took my advice!

I really hope that Rusfed will let her go. Many of their girls deserve a chance to compete internationally, even if they don't have quads. She can have a nice and long international career if she skates for Kazakhstan. No pressure anymore, no overworking because she has to win spots.
She's a good skater and can give us beautiful programs.

She is still in Russia and posted a story from the cska rink. Unlikely her family is migrating anywhere.
Moreover, she plans to stay to train at CSKA with Sokolovskaya, which is a club under the auspices of the army.

Being overlooked for the reserve team for the all but retired Shcherbakova and Trusova must have been the final straw for her and her family at such a critical stage in her career. Good luck to her.

She didn't really show high results in that season. If Shcherbakova and Trusova hadn't gotten into the reserve, those places would have gone to Sinitsyna and Gushchina, who had much better results at the Russian Championships and the Russian Grand Prix Final. Sonya and her family should realize that she really couldn't stand the competition with the girls without ultra-с.

That's very interesting and I wonder what will come of it.

This is all a rather unclear situation, as everything is based on the initiative of Sofia and her family. The Kazastan Federation hasn't even been notified and apparently isn't particularly eager to help her in this situation. Rusfed will do as usual, I think at least a year of quarantine. Perhaps two, since Sofia participated in last year's RusNat.

I wonder though if she was left off the team because it was already known that she was transferring. Her people could have privately informed the powers to be that those were her intentions.

It's weird they didn't inform the Kazakh fed first.
Also the fact that she's still very much a CSKA skater is so weird, I don't even know what the rules for that are. Are non-Russians with close links to the Russian military allowed in at the moment?

Unfortunately for Sonia, she was no chance for the national team this season anyway 🤷‍♀️ it's been a really unsuccessful season for her.

That's true. She had a bad last season, but it was clear she had a seemingly never ending growth spurt last year that affected her performances so I didn't think someone with her talent should be left to hang out to dry. She had/has more upside than Maiia Khromykh (although I enjoy her skating and she was cruelly affected by a freak injury so it's good to see her get a chance to redeem herself).

I thought I read something earlier in the year that they wouldn't be eligible for the Olympics if tied with the military.

She had a cruel growth spurt that clearly affected her jumps and confidence. I imagine most of this growth has been completed now and she's close to her adult size. I'd rather judge her after one more season when her weight and height has stablised.

I think she's an odds on chance for an Olympic medal if the Russian team (or independent skaters from Russia) are still banned.

Yes me at well, she was always one of my favorites and still is. Anyway losing her ultra-c could benefit her in the lon run if she can transfer countries and Rusfed doesn't mind to lose her because of that. If anything they should want to let her go, they will never have a short supply of skaters and then they will win international tournaments albeit under a different country.

Now Usacheva is said to maybe retire? I can hardly keep up with all the fs news since yesterday...

Daria Usacheva, according to RIA Novosti, has left Eteri Tutberidze's group.
I think this means retirement.
