Ideas for Davis & White

Hi, first post here! I'm a huge D/W fan and am looking forward to seeing their development, especially leading up to the Olympics. I'm enjoying the ideas presented here, I'm so anxious to see what they come up with for next season.

I know it's probably overused but I think they would do a wonderful job with "Samson and Delilah"...they certainly would fit the roles well. I think Meryl is quite beautiful and Charlie very attractive, I just love their contrast on the ice. Sorry, just had to gush over them a little!

Anyway, I know Samson and Delilah would probably be similar to their Polevetsian Dance from 2007 but I still think with their power and speed, it would be amazing.

Charlie could let his hair grow a bit longer, not Gwendal long, though! And leave it blond and curly. Meryl would look the part perfectly, I read someone describe her looks as "biblical beauty"...that does fit!

Whatever they choose, I hope it's powerful...that's what I think suits their style.

Brubaker is too short and McLaughlin is too young.,

I always picture Samson on the young side because he was so gullible, so Charlie's about the right age. But he does need to be tall compared to Delilah, since he's supposed to be the strong man.

Thanks for the welcome, rallycain!

And dorispulaski...Charlie's not overly tall but he is a good bit taller than Meryl, because she is so tiny. I think physically they are a good match.

Could totally see them as Samson and Delilah.
Great idea, tapdancer! And again, welcome to the boards.

Some interesting choices there, blue dog. A little on the scary side but I agree that D/W should do drama and they need a "love" theme to help with their PCS score...I love the haunting quality of some of the music. It was suggested earlier that they should do "The Illusionist"...I like that choice and I also really like "Atonement". I just hope Igor doesn't come up with anything cheesy!!

Thanks for the welcome, Imarie086!

So I've been watching The Tudors-I'm a bit of a history buff on this period in history, or I'd like to be and I enjoy the show even though it has glaring inaccuracies- and it got me thinking. Can anyone else see Meryl as Anne Boleyn? I can totally see it; both are unconventional beauties known to be very intelligent. Anne Boleyn was so bold; she didn't hold back on anything really, and isn't that what people have wanted from Meryl (for her to be more assertive, more bold?)?
I just think something like this would be perfect for Meryl-AND Charlie. Charlie could portray Henry Percy or Tom Wyatt (Henry VIII would be too much of a stretch, although historical accuracy probably wouldn't matter that much in ice dance )

You know everyone has given a lot of good dramatic suggestions- myself included. But I was thinking about it and maybe they should just shake it up and do something fun, young, and attention grabbing.

I wonder if they could pull off a techno dance number or disco. That would really be fun with a Los Angeles audience at worlds next year.

Roll Bounce had a fun disco soundtrack- it was a movie with Bow Wow as a kid during the roller skating disco craze in the 1970s.
"Boogie Oogie Oogie"

Fun techno remix of a Natasha Bedingfield song, "Love Like This"

I really liked it when Branden Overett and then Kevin Van Der Perren skated to Safri Duo's "Everything." (Though because it's been used by 2 different skaters already this past season it's not such a new idea)

Though with all of the above they would really need to commit to the style.

I hope whatever they end up doing they have fun.

I've really liked everyone's ideas so far.

I was thinking maybe the soundtrack to Hitchcock movie "Vertigo" would be interesting and haunting. Here's is a link to a trailer of that movie with music:

Or maybe parts of the movie Rosemary's Baby. That would be something quite different. I particularly like the lullaby that Mia Farrow sings. You can hear it at this link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KJckigaFRoA&feature=related

There is also Vitamin String Quartet which does several cinematic orchestral interpretations of current music ranging from Radiohead to Slayer to No Doubt to Eric Clapton.

I really like the soundtrack from the movie "The Black Stallion." The music has so much variations like hints of Middle Eastern type music. Plus, I think the music would fit with their desire to show power and athleticism. This site has some clips from the soundtrack. http://www.moviemusic.com/soundtrack/blackstallion

As for songs with lyrics, I like "Te lo agradezco, pero no" by Alejandro Sanz ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VH0gftgbhFo&feature=related ) and "This Woman's Work" by Kate Bush ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hm901CXujEg ) and "The Love Thieves" by Depeche Mode

very smart missysays;)

just in general, I really feel like they should pick a more danceable piece of music. That' what V/M's been doing and found much sucess with. But I think starting with their last junior season, D/V've picked classical/instrumental music that weren't necesarily very danceable...

I think they should pick music that shows off their athletic side, since that seems to be what they enjoy doing. "Polovetsian Dances" was a good choice for them in this regard, since there was a lot of opportunity to jump around and skate fast.

yeah, I agree with you on that too. So how about something fast and danceable? Like Rock and Roll? I loved their Jive OD number from 2005 for instance.

Rock n Roll would be good -- my only hesitation is that I don't know what they'll be picking as their OD music. If they pick a fast Charleston, throw in some Lambeth Walk, etc., then a rock n roll FD might look too similar.

I agree with the posters who suggested Samson & Delilah -- that definitely sounds like a good piece of music for them.

My greatest hope is that they use this summer to really work on polishing their movements. No matter what music they choose, it's not going to really mean much if their lines aren't sharp, precise, matching, etc. And that's true for any dancer.

how about something even more unconventional? what if they portrayed the story of salome? i know that's one of michelle's signature programs, but the theme itself hasn't been attempted in ice dance. he isn't the king herod type, but more john the baptist.

YES!!!!!! Meryl and Anne - YES!!!!

What about a "darker" or more intense/serious scene (but still some "love tension") from Jane Eye or Jane Austen.

Women's Work yes, Funky techno no.

I'm not sure they could pull off Boogie-Woogie somthing. Next year the OD is what, roaring 20s' or something like that?...

Perhaps something from Little Women....Yes, Tar did it but a more grown up selection, perhaps when the girls were older and being courted?

I forgot to mention, Rosmary's Baby would be good.

I see D/W in darker, moodier pieces. Tension, tautness with a bit of romance - not sex but honest, sweet romance. I don't see them doing the typical rock or jazz ect. I actually, would have liked to see them preform to The Piano or similar pieces
