2023-24 Retirements, Splits and New Partnerships

Huh? How do I do that?

I am sorry, I was unclear.

In my response to you, I "embedded" the IG post. I believe (I have heard from others that don't have social media) that they can see the embedded posts. So I was asking, can you see the post that I embedded?

I always try to embed posts for that reason. :)

I always try to embed posts for that reason. :)

The problem with doing that is that a lot of posts don't actually display when embedded.

With Twitter posts, you get a square with "Cannot connect to Twitter. Disable any adblocker and tracking prevention then try again." written in the middle. Before Musk's changes, sometimes I could be bothered to click through to the post, but most times I didn't. But since Musk's changes, I don't bother at all. I'm not a Twitter member, so there's no point even trying as most of the time I just get presented with a log in page.

With vKontakte and Tiktok posts, you just get a large white gap. And you have to go to quote the post to find out the image identifier, and try to construct the address manually to see it. Which can be very difficult. It's too much bother, so I just scroll past them.

Instagram posts used to not be displayed, but they mostly are now. There is the occasional post that says you have to go to Instagram to view it, but not many.

It has been that long since somebody embedded a Facebook post that I can't remember what happens with them.

YouTube is about the only site for which embedding does work all the time.

All this is why I avoid embedding posts. I always post the address instead. Much more reliable.

I am not on instagram, can you summarize please.
Autotranslation that Vasilisa has attached to her post (I corrected it a little):

Dear friends, as you have already seen, our couple no longer exists. It's true, it's not fake. And I want to tell you the truth. I have never washed dirty linen in public, but now I will not be silent. It all started on July 4: Valera told me that he did not want to skate with me. I know the reason very well, he told it to his friend and my mother. And it had nothing to do with figure skating. It was, to put it bluntly, personal. I will not tell you the details because I think it is wrong. But the next day he changed his mind and started saying that he didn't want to skate because he doesn't like how I train. He said that I was beating him, that I didn't work well, that I treated him terribly, and so on. Anjelika Alekseevna and I did everything to save the couple, and it worked for a while. We discussed everything and prepared all this time for the test skates. But three days ago, Valera brough a contract to a training and said that if I did not sing it by September 1, then he would not skate with me. A contract that I must fully provide for him. You can see the photos yourself. We tried to talk, Anjelika Alekseevna suggested other different solutions, but Valera said that this was his condition, and only in this way, he would, stepping over himself, skate with me in a pair. Neither I, nor my family, nor my coach, no one was going to work on such conditions. That's why we don't skate together anymore. And this is not a mutual decision, only Valera's decision. But I am grateful for these 5 years. There were many good moments and victories. I have learned a lot over the years. So I gratefully move on. I love my job and full of motivation to continue skating, but with another person. Thanks to all the fans for your support.

As it's been shared in the Canadian skating thread : Gabriel Farand (who skated with Tilda Alteryd) is entered at Souvenir Georges-Éthier, a smaller competition in Québec city area, with Fiona Bombardier. We often mention that she is the daughter of Josée Chouinard, but she is also the daughter of Jean-Michel Bombardier, a former pairs skater for Canada, twice Canadian champion and top ten at Worlds.

If I were excited about Lia's switch to pair, I really like Fiona's big jumps and on ice personality, so I hope she doesn't quit singles right away. Of course, she did compete at Cranberry Cup as a single skater. We will have to see what her plans are in the future.

My same thoughts about Fiona and singles as well.

Also the Canadian pairs field is becoming a little crowded, and I wonder if she'd have a better chance at going further in singles. But if pairs is what she truly prefers...either way, I like her skating and wish her luck.

No, please don't become a pairs skater Fiona. 😭
But maybe she just wants to try it to know what it's like, whether she likes it. And if she likes it better, okay, then of course I would have to respect her decision. But I don't think it looks like pairs will be easier for Canadians and Canada needs single skaters more... And I really enjoyed her as a single so far, wouldn't like to see her give that up. 😐

I know it is wrong to compare but ironically she has some big jumps like her mom though I believe she didn't know much about her mom 's skating career. Her mother Josee Chouinard could never get it together under the big lights but she had the ability and charm to win gold.

Look, what Josée did or did not manage to do 30 years ago doesn't mean that it will be transferred to Fiona. Summer MacIntosh's mother (sister of figure skater Brooke) wasn't a world record holder at 16 like her daughter is. Ponomarenko (Anthony) doesn't look so far. like he will be a dominant ice dancer to win Olympic gold like his parents. Malinin is much more successful than his parents... etc I don't think it's fair to assess Fiona's future based on Josée's bad mental preparation, especially in an era where sport psychologists were barely used. Fiona is just starting out, let's give her a chance to write her own history, whether it's pairs or singles.

Regarding the split of Smirnova/ Siianytsia, I'm happy for Anastasia making the decision that's best for her, but it's bittersweet if she needed to do so for any possible injury reasons. They have both experienced bad luck with injuries and COVID, which had prevented them from competing at U.S. Nationals the past two seasons.

Still, they were skilled partners who on paper were considered one of the top three U.S. teams going into this season. They had prepared interesting new programs, and they had two senior GP assignments, so I do find their split a bit surprising. In looking back, they have had much to deal with regarding injuries and obvious anxieties over the war in their homeland. I had hoped they were both in better physical and mental shape to move forward together this season. But as usual, figure skating can be such a tough sport to navigate.

I wish Nastyia much happiness in her future endeavors! ❤️ Meanwhile, much luck to Danylo in finding a good partner soon. 👍 On that front, it will be interesting to see what happens, as AFAIK, there are still a few U.S. female skaters looking for new pairs partners.

I'm glad to hear that Gabriel Farand has a new partner. I had wondered about speculation that he and Chloe Panetta might pair. Apparently not. Will Panetta move on to new endeavors, or is she actively looking for a new partner?

Meanwhile, hopefully Farand and Bombardier will stick, as Farand seems to have had a few switches in recent years after the split with his junior partner, Audrey Carle, with whom he won a Canadian junior pairs championship. I first saw Carle/ Farand in 2019, and I thought they were so lovely together, with a promising future:

I suppose Carle has moved on from skating. I have only seen a little of Bombardier at Canadian Nationals, in singles. I was impressed by her talent and by her striking personality on the ice. Good luck to Bombardier/ Farand! I suppose at the moment, both Bombardier, and Lia Pereira, might continue in singles, until forced to choose one discipline over the other.

Both Skate Canada & US figsk likely feel the more pairs teams the merrier, especially in view of the rate of recent splits and retirements. As the new era/ transition in skating progresses, a hierarchy among promising pairs teams worldwide, will emerge. Best wishes to all aspirants.
