2024 World Championships Men's Short Program

Love Mark Hanretty's pronunciation of the skater's name. He obviously researches and practices. Well done!
Not on the ISU feed yet so I have to ask, which skater's name did Mark do well on?

Fingers crossed for Burak. His name means ... beetroot in my language, Polish.

That's a good one!

But not as good as Ekaterina Bobrova's surname meaning "beaver". And the supporters of Bobrova / Soloviev being referred to as "Team Beaver".

I don't know if it is the same in other languages, but in British English, the word "beaver" doesn't just refer to a type of rodent. It also refers to a part of the female anatomy... :slink:

Someone actually admitted to skating to the song "Disco Inferno"? Someone should bump that coach in the butt with a Land Rover.
It was quite a spectacle and he had some much over the top fun with it that it was infectious.

Burak is supposed to be "From Arabic براق (Buraq), the name of the legendary creature that, according to Islamic tradition, transported the Prophet Muhammad. Its name is derived from Arabic برق (barq) meaning "lightning". I like beetroot better though.

Unfortunately it doesn't only mean "beetroot" in Polish. The word is only used to call a rude, boorish person. 😭
