59th ISU Congress: Watch and Discuss

As for the changes during an Olympic cycle— if a skater can't hack it, pack it. I don't see what the fuss is all about.
Evan Bates had a good point during the meeting about how the singles/pairs skaters were uncertain about the changes from the athlete's forum at Worlds. Ice dance is more fluid with the rule changes, so they're used to it. But for the other skaters, it's June, they're supposed to be getting their programs finalized. They don't know what the rules for next season will be and the technical committee is pushing a lot of changes at once for them.

I'll take 20 but would be happier with more. As for the changes during an Olympic cycle— if a skater can't hack it, pack it. I don't see what the fuss is all about.

I'd also be happier with more. But 20% is still some progress and a move in good direction. Another good move would be banning quads at junior comp.

"Every year, there are rule changes. Rather than being dissatisfied with them, I believe that we need to be flexible and respond to them. It’s more about anticipating how the latest rules can be applied and how choreography can earn as many points as possible for the skaters."

— Benoit Richaud

These people are supposed to be athletes, not babies with bibs.

And I'm sure Benoit Richaud would like to know the rules before he starts choreographing programs for his skaters. That's fair to all the parties involved.

They don't know if the rules will be applied to the upcoming season yet in June. That's understandable frustration.

seriously. adding a choreo spin is not that hard... removing a jumping pass is easy too... Ice dance changes are more complicated I feel at times.

And if the scale of values changes for spins and steps.. it makes absolutely no difference in terms of program planning... :) they gotta do the spins and steps anyways... It's not like when a quad throw or quad twist is devalued... now that is a big change... because the reward is no longer worth the risk...

So i tend to agree here with the feeling that these changes are no big deal. These are elite athletes. They are so comfortable on the ice, they can adapt... Why are they belittling themselves and their capacity to change small things like a choreo spin ?

To me, this is just a power play between athletes and their organization

I started in sports at a young age. What you see as "understandable frustration," I see as a challenge.

And many others who started sports at a young age see it as understandable frustration. Tough, rough, brook no nonsense, walking uphill both ways barefoot in the snow to practice, braving every curveball life throws at them, athletes: and they still are frustrated.

I do believe athletes can adapt, and I do see why not knowing in June can be frustrating. Both things can be true.

Someone is whining about a choreo spin?

Back on the important topics, I just spotted Georgian Fed Lady in the live feed.

I thought Eric Radford was stepping away from his position while the Canadian appeal was going on?
