2024 CS Nebelhorn Trophy: Info and pre-game chat

I am surprised to see no other Italians than Frangipani in men. I guess Matteo's planning to let his body rest as long as possible after the spring surgery, and Grassl is perhaps not competition-ready yet. Aymoz is probably aiming for Nice Trophy. Those who train in Russia or near Russia, like Egadze or Shaidorov, are likely going to do Denis Ten Memorial, or Slovakia/Hungary CS. No Jason so far, I guess that's planned?
You've missed Matteo Nalbone. He is also on the list for Nebelhorn.

Yup, you're right. I checked his bio as the name didn't ring a bell for me, and now I see why. It seems he's entering seniors. Good luck to him!

Yes, he was in juniors before. From what I've seen, he is in a similar mould to Zich - very talented, but also rather inconsistent, especially with jumps.

Oh I see - I am looking forward to him, then! I really liked Zich's skating on the JGP, and thought he'd be the next big thing, very artistic, if only he had consistency. If Matteo is like him, I'm excited.

He isn't as charismatic a performer as Zich. I was thinking more of technical strengths and weaknesses.

Why? Japanese Nationals results - Rino 17th, Wakaba 12th, Yuna 9th.
whoops, I owe you an apology. I totally missed that my post had 'why?' in its opening, so your response makes total sense now that I've re-read mine. I can't read. Sorry. I've edited my other post accordingly.

They were, but when there's a will, there's a way. European skaters may not have A level and B level money, but they do have opportunities to compete abroad on a level lower than GP, to test their programs and increase their chances for good WS and SB. It should not be one or the other, IMO. I hope things change for JPN skaters, and all top ones will be able to get as many CS/B event chances as European ones.
I'm a Rino fan and when she finished 17th in her most recent Japanese Nationals it's kind of obvious everyone who finishes above her is going to be prioritized to compete abroad. She's lucky enough to be invited for the GP series because of her past GP results so I hope she capitalizes on that AND do well at Nationals.

European skaters also don't need to get funds for air travel to Europe, and are not competing with 10 other high level skaters for the priority to be funded for international travel and competition.

The assignments are up now. CPom and Zing/Kol for ID, with Flo/Des only substitutes, again! 😡

C/P and Z/K already have two GPs. Plus, Moro/Chen, who placed well behind Flo/Des at LP, are being favored over F/D!!! M/C get to skate at Sizzler and they already have a Challenger Series assignment at Lombardia, as a new, unproven team, while Flo/Des are given sloppy substitute seconds twice already!!! Last year, it was Wolf/ Tsar being favored over F/D. Now, it's Moro/ Chen. Flo/Des are not being valued the way they should be! Skaters need to compete in order to improve and to gain exposure. U.S. fed officials had the nerve to relay to B&V after Lake Placid that they simply needed more exposure with international judges before being fairly judged. 🙄 Next, U.S. fed officials proceed to ignore Flo/Des for needed international assignments! 😳🤯

Flo/Des better get Budapest Trophy. I think U.S. fed is trying to maneuver to give Moro/Chen the SA tbd, with the thinking that Flo/Des are first on the GP alternates list. But there's no guarantee that F/D will get a chance to fill a GP alternates opening. If Moro/Chen get the SA tbd and Flo/Des do not get a GP, Flo/Des would unfairly have to compete again at U.S. ice dance final to make Nationals, while Moro/Chen, a new team, would get to waltz right into Nationals. 🙄

I have a slightly off-topic question but this thread seems the place to ask it. Does anyone here know if spectators are allowed into the Oberstdorf Rink during the times when there are no competitions? I would like to go to Oberstdorf sometime and just watch the normal coaching and practices and wonder if that would be allowed?

Already know i´m going to pay for the stream  So many favorites including Mia and Linnea :love2: This year I will probably not pay for Lombardia though, usually Nebelhorn has a better quality stream so I think it will be worth the money

Only thing i´m disappointed about is no Reitan/Majorov on the entries, same with Van Rensburg/Steffan, it doens´t feel right that they are not there on "home ice" (Strictly speaking R/M lives in Sweden now but still train a lot in Oberstdorf). Now I already know I have to pay for the stream in the next competition they attend simply because the little sneak peak I saw from their costumes looks promising :love2:

You can visit the rink during opening hours. Entrance for visitors costs up to 3.50 €.

If you're correct, I don't ever want to hear USFS talk about fairness in sport again if its just going to hand an unproven team the spot out of nepotism/political favor. I'm so mad about this. If Morozov/Chen had won at Lake Placid then whatever, but they didn't. AND the two times they have done the FD in public, it has had serious issues with botched lifts, bad dismounts, shakiness, and poor speed.

They are.
When I went to Oberstdorf to skate in the summer, there were always 2-3 tourists clad in hiking gear wandering around the rink, using the free toilets and watching people train.
I actually have never seen somebody pay a fee like lilimum mentioned, but of course could be possible :)

Considering there are so many skaters attending, I'm not sure if they can stick with starting at 2 PM. What do you think?
