2024 JGP Bangkok Rhythm Dance

What a gorgeous magenta dress that is that Rachel Martins is wearing!

I like Juel KOWALCZYK's gold shirt and black trousers combination as well, but I'm not sure the two costumes go together.

Hang on, just saw Juel's top close up. It's not gold. It's a multi-coloured patchwork shirt. No, I don't like it any more.

I have to copy and paste Juel's name to stop myself from instinctively writing "Justyna Kowalczyk"

Useless piece of information I just found out. Kowalczyk is an occupational surname, meaning "blacksmith" in Polish.

They go into the lead.

"Kowalczyk" is blacksmiths apprentice or son. Blacksmith is "kowal" in Polish, my language is soooo beautiful.

"⅕ Of Beethoven" :cheer:   :party2: :points:

(Sorry, I couldn't resist writing it like that!)

Not familiar at all with the middle song. (I was half expecting a cover of the Girls Aloud song of the same name... :slink: )

I'm already getting the impression that there are a lot of partnerships that "Should Be Dancing" this season. My kids Emilea and Ilya are too!

Can't remember if I have seen Molly and Alessio before, but I really enjoyed that.

sorry...i couldn't resist

I wonder which of the skaters on the Taiwanese couple have a Taiwanese background. Neither of their names sounds Taiwanese for me. Even though the guy has a Chinese name, the way it's spelled sounds Cantonese to me.
Isn't Kazuteru a Japanese name? But yes, the names are spelled differently than they used to spell them (he went by Mickey Becker-Pos before, she just by Tasha Lai).

Either way, it's her, Lai is a Chinese last name most commonly found in China and Taiwan.

Aww love the school students who are here to cheer, they've even got special glove!

Also there's a couple on the ice and I'm wondering which one of them's grandma had to sacrifice her couch for their costumes :laugh2:

Ooo and apparently the lad from NZ kicked some butt yesterday, how exciting! I put him in my predictions.

I kind of can't blame dancers for wanting to maximize their possibilities/opportunities but I am not Canadian so not for me to say

I don't blame them either. The Canadian Ice Dance is a rather crowded field. That's why I am always surprised when so many partnerships that train with the Lanes which include a non-Canadian skater opt to skate for Canada.

I was guessing it was the girl. I'm not an expert on Chinese names, and I don't know anything about either of the skaters. But when I saw the guy's name, I thought it was Japanese. And looking at him, he actually reminds me of another sportsman that is Japanese. I wonder if he asked a mate whose family is from Hong Kong to transliterate his Japanese name into Chinese, not realising that they speak different languages in the two islands (Cantonese in Hong Kong and Mandarin in Taiwan).

Or maybe he has done a Tim Koleto: adopting a name that looks more like one from the country that he is representing. But in this case he has inadvertantly chosen one from the wrong language.

"Kowalczyk" is blacksmiths apprentice or son. Blacksmith is "kowal" in Polish, my language is soooo beautiful.

Thank you for the correction! (Pesky Wikipedia, not telling the whole story!)

That is even more appropriate, given that they are Juniors!
