Shoma Uno

Honestly a lot of skating that I watch in Skate America reminds me of Shoma in a good way. Perseverance, focusing on your own skating, never giving up even if it seems to late and you've missed your window of opportunity, saving yourself from what feels like the end of the world, respect for other competitors and their work, and not letting mistakes or failures let you down.

It also makes me feel like Shoma did right to step down. Compared to him, so many skaters have just really started their skating career or even their second competitive lives, while he's done it all for so long and has earned so much accolades. It's just different times I guess. I am very excited for skaters who achieved things they have never done before, and I didn't want Shoma to come back at all. But not because the skating is not great, because they're really great!!! I just think he has earned the time to actually live his life beyond this.

Indeed. I bet Shoma watched the competition and will continue to for all the Grand Prix. I bet he was shocked in a good way too seeing Ilia’s backflip on the ice in competition. I’m sure there will be a lot of surprises this season. Shoma isn’t really gone. From competing, yes. But he eat, sleeps, and breathes figure skating. He doesn’t want to stop skating. Think of all the amazing things he’ll do now with skating and non-related skating. As far as I know he never had surgery from an injury did he?

So he might do more shows in Tokyo now since that is where he is stationed?
It may not be an indicator! The show he's promoting, Prince Ice World, schedule their shows in various cities, so it may not be exactly "more" in Tokyo. For example, in 2024 Shoma was a guest skater for Prince Ice World in Tokyo (January), Shiga (February), Yokohama (May) and Kagoshima (July). Next year, aside from Tokyo in February he will also skate at their stop in Nagasaki in January.

It's pretty rare for an ice show to be /exactly/ in Tokyo; they tend to be around the Tokyo area, like Yokohama, Chiba, Makuhari, Nikko, etc.

Last week I missed Shoma when I watched Sk America on TV because “THE ICE” boys’s performances were great.

This week I missed Shoma when I watched Sk Canada.
SP: Ladies In Lavender
FS: Spiegel im Spiegel , Fall On Me, Timelapse, and Loco
Theses programs remind me of Shoma.
He is so special on the ice.
I really miss his skating.
I’m curious what does Shoma comment for Lavender and Loco.

I wonder what Shoma thinks about Lavender and Loco too. They were both very well done by Shun and Junhwan. :)

He is special and he will continue to be special for all of us. :ghug:

I used to be so worried about what kind of legacy Shoma would leave behind when he retired. Seeing so many skaters use Shoma-inspired music makes me wish I could tell my past self that he will leave a beautiful legacy behind. 🥲 And I know rabidline has said something similar already, but seeing skaters fight as much as they possibly can for their performances and seeing them go for bold and dramatic things...this is a part of his legacy too. I am glad that so many other skaters have honored him in their own ways.

I felt the same way @jerrymouse333, probably because Ladies in Lavender is my all-time favorite program. Shun and Yelim Kim did a nice job, but Sho's is still #1 for me. I think I yelled "No!" when I heard "Fall on Me"! :laugh2: Skate Canada seemed like Tribute to Shoma!

There's also "Clair de Lune" using the same version Shoma did in ice dance at Skate Canada :D No "I Love You"s though.

Listen closely...I know I heard some "I Love Yous" somewhere in that ice dance routine...! I think they were overlaid onto the other piece of music that Harris/Chan of Australia used. Not used in the same way Shoma used them, but they are there!
