The only explanation I can think of for Torgashev’s marks is that the judges want to see more reliable, consistent skating from him. Forever he has been known as a train wreck competitor and it will take some time and a history of strong performances from him to erase that perception. Unfortunately, that’s how judging works in this sport. It also really hurts him that he has a lower technical base value compared to the other men in this event.

Yep. I don't ever consider PCS to be anything more than a consistency score. Once fans realize that, the judging makes so much more sense. There can be *some* variation, like if someone has truly great musicality or SS, you can get 5+ more PCS than you otherwise would have, and if you're really terrible at presentation, you'll have less PCS than others, but most PCS comes from consistency.
