That wasn't their best skate for these two, but they did well to recover after a difficult opening. Considering all of their injury troubles and the late replacement, landing all the throws, doing the 2A combo, and getting the lifts up is a big win for them. Overall, this was definitely a redemption free.

I'm blessedly free from his presence but to take a guess: figure skating is not a major sport like say baseball or ice hockey, so the crowd looks impressive because of low expectations + the "unexpected" crowd helps him hype the event itself up

And, being Japan, it's the biggest competition audiences anywhere so far this year...
