2024 Finlandia Trophy Rhythm Dance

Disappointed for Hannah and Ye - I hope they can move up with their fabulous Cruella FD. I wish they had done a 50s RD - I think it would have suited them better than disco.
I'd love to see this happen but unless the teams on the higher tiers of judging mess up big, big time (exhibit A Bratti/Somerville at Skate Canada) I'm not holding my breath. Being second year seniors without the right flag will have its effect

On the topic of everybody picking the same songs: it pains me that while I do not enjoy James Brown both Oona and Gage and Juulia and Matthias skate to his song

Imagine some alternate universe (as if ours wasn't bad enough to begin with) where each ID team has to still skate compulsories but only to ... 4 versions of Roxanne.

Juulia and Matthias are only scored properly when they compete in Finland. They are so underappreciated on the world stage. Same with the Taschlers; they are consistently undermarked.

Agreed, but while I worship Juulia and have absolute respect for Taschlerovi's speed and power T/V do struggle with levels sometimes and Taschlerovi can be messy as well as smooth and powerful. But then again, they are dinged much more harshly for those points than some other teams so they are definitely not getting their dues

... the best coaching team.
Or at least the most connected.

Piper and Paul were brilliant once again. I'm sure they'll be studying the protocols to see where they were two-ish points below Skate Canada. Still a good lead and the class of the field, in my opinion.

I also liked the Finnish team, though they did not disguise their technical requirements quite as well in the choreography. Basically anyone not doing disco this season is also helped by their musical selection, in my opinion.

Well, just to bounce in. Quite a fun event. A pity about Hannah and Ye, they have nice programmes, Too bad Emily made that mistake (I usually have that team on top with these three specific teams). I'm not really good at judging ID (I think they're all good, I can only see real big mistake, like mishaps in the twizzles, falls, missteps, stumbles) but I did think Piper and Paul were correctly on top. You might not like the costumes, but they excude a Barbie and Ken vibe (I saw tha Barbie film) that is totally fitting to the music - together with the movements of course. Tbh the Disco Brits are becoming a bit too much. Don't get me wrong, this rhythm dance has to be energetic, but I have seen them do something more lyrical in a show, and I would like to see that again (they were quite good at it). As usual the Taschlers are fast (they are fun to watch) and seeing Julia do Rock and Roll is really something. Off to NRW trophy now...(where I will probably will have to blink a few times, as the level will be lower).

I think the other nations judges are taking advantage of the uncertainty of the citizenship issue for Olympics are trying to keep them down a bit. I felt they have been a bit undermarked on the second mark all year and am getting really annoyed by it.

This is Lim/Quan we are speaking of? A number of teams are facing citizenship issues

Yes, I just feel they have been undermarked all year a bit. Their material is good. I am at a loss to explain their drop of 7-10 points regularly from last year. Citizenship may be being used an excuse to mark them down or I may be off-base suspecting this.

I think their RD as originally constructed, with the long, slow, crowd-noise section, did not do them any favors. I get that her technique is not as neat as his, and can see why it might be thought that giving them this long, slow section might help her slow down and focus more on precise technique, but IMHO it had the unintended consequence of making them seem overall very slow and requiring lots of camouflage.

Reworking the RD to shorten that section, as they showed here, I think is a step in the right direction.

I do agree that she is a fabulous ice dance diva in the making!

At practice PP had different lifequard costumes than in Canada. I tried to take a video and was going to give you a screen shot but it did not manage. My cell phone has often problems with taking video.
