Ladies SP

also, look at this picture
she has the perfect curves

http://img2.dcinside.com/viewimage....a1e344fd329b589&f_no=7fed8071dad137a520b5c6b2

the curves can't be created if she is skating with outside edge

YUNA IS NOT A LIP JUMPER

Does not look that "perfect" to me if she's on a complete flat, as the tracing shows. If you want to look for "perfect curve" on the flip, I suggest you look at some pictures of, say, Joannie Rochette's take off on the flip. And just like I said before, even if she's on a shallow edge (not outside) but switches her center of gravity and hence her blade to the outside edge at the last minute and take off FROM THERE. It is a lip.Yes, Yuna IS a lip jumper.

it is crazy to me that she gets that much of a lower score compared with Skate America because of an edge call, while at SA she was this close to falling on that axel.
however, i did not see her skate at Cup of China, so there might have been other problems..

It was mostly not because of the edge call, but because of underroation call on 3Lz. To me, the call on her 3Lz looks fair. But considering other skaters' jumps in the competetion, it's unfair.

shine, I wouldn't waste my time trying to explain to the Yuna bots if I were you. They should be in the yuna vs. mao bots thread and posting all these pics or whatever they want.

You seems write like the only human in this thread. :p

I just saw Wagner's SP on Youtube. It's beautiful. Of all the American ladies SPs, I like hers the best. 'Somewhere in Time' is one of my favourite movie themes, and the choreography worked really well. Too bad about the fall though. I'm hoping the LP can help pull her up to a podium finish.

I thought that she could have gotten a better PCS. Not only the choreos and interpretation were beautiful, but also her skating was pretty fast.

Are you crazy? It's a 3loop, not a 2loop, watch the video again, please.

Miki's 3Loop that got ratified had less rotation than Yu-Na's 3Lutz that got downgraded.

Yu-Na neither lipped nor deserved to be downgraded here.

It's sad that you are so incredibly biased and continue to try and spew off false information.

I totally agree, I loved it. Her spins gotten much faster. Her SP made me want to go watch Dubreuil Lauzon! so I watched my favorite ice dance again!

No, I wasn't. I specifically said that I was providing link to a high-res video to SA, because the combo was mentioned by some posters before. And that combo was discussed in terms of its downgradability at least as much as in terms of the flip edge.

As for the 3F+3T in the CoC SP, the outside edge is even more obvious than at the SA LP, and it also lasted longer. You could see it in the YT video that I provided the link for (pay special attention to the slow-mo replay). I'm watching the high-resolution video I just downloaded, and I can confirm that it is every bit as obvious an outside edge here as it was on the YT video, if anything the high resolution makes it more apparent.

Again the center of gravity idea is another intuition that usually goes with edges: if you're on an outside edge, then you normally have your center of gravity on the outside, and your tracing is curving to the outside; vice versa if you're on an inside edge. In Yu-na's case, her tracing is very flat (no obvious curving to the outside) and her center of gravity is also not on the outside. It is precisely because her center of gravity is not on the outside, that she can be on an outside edge without having a tracing curving to the outside. And she can do this because of the way she's picking her other foot: her weight is shared between the two legs, so even though her left foot contacts the ice on the outside edge, overall her weight is in between the legs, and her direction of motion does not swerve along the outside curve.

However, what defines the edge of a jump take off is the *edge*, not the tracing or the body rotation or the center of gravity (these are just heuristics that typically go along with the edge, but not always, and clearly not in Yu-na's flip's case), that's why it's called an edge! If a tech panel wants to be literal in interpreting the edge definition, then it's very understandable why they gave Yu-na's flip an edge call.

By the way, the edge calls (and all other calls) are not made by a single tech caller or controller, it's by the panel of all three people.

Another thing I hate about the tech/judge panel distinction: why have such a small number of people (tech panel) determine the whole outcome (as so often it has) with these borderline, inconsistent calls? They can easily make human mistakes or have personal biases, just as judges can. At least give the power to a large panel of people from all different countries and different schools of skating, so that the biases and mistakes are averaged out.

WOW you sound like a professional tech panel who you stress everytime that you hate. what a pro.. sounds like you know better than anyone  can't even believe how long your posts are... You do spend time watching Yuna's jumps and criticizing it haha I'll give you for that but I don't think it's quite productive what you're doing..

why are you (u know who you are) ppl still arguing about the edge calls in this thread? there is another one specifically made for that purpose, geez.

anyways. just wanted to mention that katrina hacker was lovely lovely lovely... how old is she? i hope she can improve technically enough to be a big contender and compete with the top girls. she has lovely lines, lovely spins (the ONLY I-spin that i have ever liked), and seems like she has good air position (straight up and down) and speed too.

her music and costume evoked such a nice "winter wonderland" type of feeling, a little reminiscent of the tenley albright era.

I am still waiting to watch Katrina's SP. glad you liked it! She is around 18 I think, I think I heard this might be her last season competing.

what a shame... i hope she continues.

wonder if she was around for a long time and decided that she's not going to get "to the top?" because i only first saw her skate last season at four continents.

also, let's hear it for ashley getting rid of her bouncing ponytail!!!!!! yay~~~ maybe they do actually read these boards, hahaha.

actually, all the lady skaters in the last group especially look so beautiful.

Yes. What worries me is that she tends to go into the jumps very fast, which often leads to unstable landings like the one she had here. The speed with which she rotates is fantastic, though. Hopefully she'll learn how to better stabilize those landings. Her spins and spirals are also first-rate.

It doesn't surprise me that her presentation is much better now, considering she's training with Johnny Weir's long-time coach. And Phillip Mills is a fantastic choreographer who also did MK's exhibition to "Hands" - he's got a natural, organic style that I like. It's nice to see not everyone is going to 'she who shall not be named' for choreography.

I also find it funny that Ashley chose figure skating over ballet because she "wasn't going to do anything in pink shoes" (so it says in her Wikipedia entry), yet she's all decked out in pink for this SP. I guess as long as it's not the shoes, pink is just fine.

I know! This made me wonder if the program and the costume were rather off-character for her, even though she performed it beautifully.

ITA with you that she is first-rate at her spins and spirals.

This says that Mr.Orser is going to protest against ISU.
Is he serious?? I'm so shocked.

I am not shocked.

Every journalist at COC wrote Yu-na's 3F-3T was excellent.
These journalists can see the protocol right after the competition and write articles based on the protocol.
But no one mentioned that Yu-na's flip edge was wrong which indicates the edge call was absurd.

Performing to “Danse Macabre” by Camille Saint-Saens, Kim hit an excellent triple flip-triple toeloop combination, a double Axel and showed exquisite spins two of which were graded a level four.

However, the other elements were strong, including her high triple flip-triple toe loop combination.

Skating to Danse Macabre by Charles-Camille Saint-Saëns, Yu-Na started off with her textbook perfect triple flip-triple toeloop, and went on to complete her spiral sequence, double axel, layback spin, flying sit spin, straight line footwork and change foot combination spin.

Even ISU article describes Yu-na's flip as excellent.

Because some of us, such as myself, is neither a Yuna or Mao bot and couldn't care less about who is better than who, yet simply cannot stand the fact that those who ARE just cannot see any fault with their skater and feel the need to go on and on denying something that is blatantly true.
