Non-warhorse music?

I'm pretty sure I read in a past thread that there's somewhere on the internet that tells you if a particular non-war-horsie piece of music has been used by a skater, in competition or in exhibition. I've got a couple of songs/pieces that I've used in ballroom dance that I think would translate to the ice as well. Since I don't go to the galas or shows, and often only manage the time to watch pairs and dance at competitions, but not singles, I don't want to use something even for a club show that I'm not aware has been used a lot. Is there actually a website somewhere with that information, or am I just imagining I read about it?

This wikia has quite a lot, though I am not sure how up to date it is, I think it may not cover all or even most of the cover quad...

:thank:That's the site I was thinking of. I had two songs in mind; one's been used a lot, I see, although not the cover version we used in ballroom (Peggy Lee, Fever). The other came up blank: Enya's Orinoco Flow. Not a skateable rhythm at first hearing, although great on the dance floor. But we like a challenge, so we'll see what we can do with all that syncopation.

I wish more people would skate to that song...

Yes... Fever has been used a lot ;) The Enya's hit or Enya in general, not so much.

That's what I assumed, I just didn't know for sure. At my dance studio they often play the Peggy Lee "Fever" for the foxtrot, which isn't the image the music conveys but somehow it works well. My ballroom teacher and I used Orinoco Flow (without the slow parts used in that video) for my International Rhumba test, with its quick quick slow rhythm. I don't know how a pairs program will go with it; I suspect it will turn out more free dance. But my pairs partner and I both get bored easily and like challenges .

I'm afraid I don't know the Enya song.

I attended a summer comp in 2017 where three, count 'em three, of the 25 (?) skaters had "Fever" programs. Two in a row during the comp. But those young whippersnappers chose Beyonce over Miss Peggy Lee:)

Wow! The Peggy Lee version is iconic. How could they NOT use it?

I happen to love the Enya song. Wasn't it used for a commercial a number of years ago, as well (for Crstyal Light)? Maybe you would recognize it for the part where she sings "Sail away, sail away, sail away." And if the song in the ad is not "Orinoco Flow," is it "Caribbean Blue?" Anway, I really like Enya's music.

Peggy Lee’s is iconic of course..

A favorite Enya song is Caribbean Blue (a slower version is available); a midwinter listen

I love Enya's music and Orinoco Flow is gorgeous (so are Only Time, Storms in Africa and Aniron, which was in the 1st Lord of the Rings film)... not sure how most skaters would go with it but hey, it's worth the try for someone lyrical.

Well I admit that my favourite will always be... Rita Moreno and Animal :)
:rofl:Oh, I love it! But I won't let my partner see it. He's a respectable professor of trauma surgery on the job, and a certified nut-case off it. He'll want to do a skating version of that, playing Animal!

(Well, come to think of it, do I then get to play Rita Moreno? A kid at the club today was using some kind of computer program to do anima drawings of anyone who'd sit for him. He did two of me that looked better -- and younger -- than the real me, so I made him print them out. Portrait of Me As I Never Was ;))

I want to see this so much.....

If you go to the References section of The Lutz Corner and use the GS search function to search just This Forum, and search on Enya it will find all the skaters we know of who used Enya's music.

When you go to the season file, you can use Find on page, too.

Recent music lists are more complete, but we have been tracking who skated to what since 2008-2009. Enya has not been much used.
