2025 Skate to Milano Pairs Free Skate

Well done to the all, that was an enjoyable competition. The top 3 are correct and fully deserve their Olympic tickets. I was a little disappointed for the Americans and Czechs but they didn’t skate their best. I would have like to seen The Philippines qualify but they were a long way off the mark and I’m not sure Sasha Korovin was all that engaged or even bothered 😬

I hope the Uzbek couple haven’t split, I really like their skating. It would have been a waste of the hassle of getting new citizenship to then walk away.
 
Today's result may have also set the composition of the Pairs judging panel at Olympics.
Armenia does not have an ISU judge.
Countries with the priority in Pairs for the draw of the Olympic panels of judges (which will be held tomorrow in Beijing) are
USA, GER, ITA, CAN, JPN, GEO, HUN, AUS, UZB, GBR, POL, NED, CHN.

That's 13. So if they all enter the draw, there won't be a draw.

Wikipedia (which cites a book (I think) from the north which the Ministry of Unificiation here in the south got their hands on) lists no composer for the film, so I am now thinking that the film might be unrelated to the piece of music used by Ryom/Han, I am a native Korean and I can assure you that Ezio Bosso was not listening to North Korean music when he wrote RIYBE

This is big coincidence then. 🤷‍♀️ This is not RIYBY, but very similar. You'd be surprised how well-versed Soviet composers, who lived behind an iron curtain, were on obscure music, classical and modern.

If it really is like that, do they really think Marco will get Uzbek citizenship that fast ? ..
 
The top 3 were correct. I was expecting more from the Japanese such promise bu tthey are through. Now the big question is are Sui and Han goign to get the spot over the team that skated here. not really a question since CHina seems to be much more Fed driven. They really push what they want. Their best hope for a skating medal is Sui and Han still. The French look devastated. Just devastated. Although I think they still get to go for the team event???

Apparently yes, they have good chances to go to the team event.

Also, does a potential new partnership for UZB need to do the TES in a previous competition to go to the Olympics ?

Anyway, I almost didn't sleep, anxiously waiting to see how would the French do, and the incertainty now with their 4th place will not help..... But yes, I'm trying to tell myself they will still go to the team event at least..

All i will say about this competition is that both C/H and M/P with their scores from John Nicks would have finished 3rd here and qualified the 3rd spot. The US should have a full roster of skaters going to Milan but the USFS Fkd it all up giving the spot here to a new team that was not ready or experienced enough.
 
They showed a close-up shot of the panda cuddly toys that the Medallists were given.

Are those full glasses of beer that the pandas are holding?! 🍺

I know they play a song about a drinking game after the Podium Ceremony, but this is taking the joke a bit too far! :laugh:

While that may be the case that was a different competition. If the Japanese team had skates like they did at Lombardia, they would have won.

Doing well at one competition doesn’t equal doing well at a separate event with a substantial increase in pressure to perform.

C/H probably are already locked for the spot. Parkman doesn't have citizenship and won't get it before olys. Unpopular opinion but I think sending a team who 100% cannot go to olympics to secure spot at qualifing event would be pretty awful for them, what would their motivation be? Sending C/H would have more sense but still if the spot is not for them, why should they be motivated and try hard to get it for their rivals. It's actually quite fair to send the team who would possibly use the spot. Maybe those mentioned teams have better scoring potential rn than S/N but psychological aspects and motivation are not less important. Also I think sending stronger team to qualifer only to later send team who would be beaten at qualifer to the olympics is unfair to other teams.

I don't think anyone is a lock for a spot this far out but considering the US "body of work" deal for team selection, Shin/Nagy were likely fighting for their own Olympic spot, and they lost it. And ironically, they hurt their body of work even more by not getting it.
