2025 Skate to Milano Free Dance

I feel so sorry for Rei/Maj. I was never a big fan of the Chinese team, so I kept my fingers crossed for the Swedes. They still have a chance, depending on what Finland will do with the second spot, when Orihara doesn't get citizenship (which will be difficult)

They really have made it in ice dance when they panel had to mark their choreo steps.
This entire ChSt element is a bullsh** that need to go. Its stupid requirements ruined composition and diversity of programs, they all look the same. Apparently you need to touch the boards not to get punished.

In general, I believe introducing more and more choreo elements with little base value but boosted GOE as technical elements is the worst thing that ISU did to ice dance in the last few years. Instead of creating beautiful, coherent chorerography teams need to figure out separate elements and meet ridiculous requirements. It's killing induviduality, no space is left for actual choreography to build a program and simply dancing. There's no dancing in ice dance🤡
Does it even make the scores more objective? Absolutely no. There's no levels and judges give for those elements just random numbers based od skaters ranking and reputation.
At the end of the day judges don't even watch those programs as most of the time they look at computers trying to put all those numbers.

About UtaMasa "!" - they got it at Kinoshita Cup so I wonder why their team didn't scrutinise it enough and make 100% sure to correct it.
I like the concept that they start with ChSt opposite to usual ending with it but strategically its not effective. It starts slowly and doesn't make climax effect - I believe in consequence they get lower GOE for that element than they would if it was done later when the music builds. Again, I personally like it as it makes their composotion a bit more original but I'm affraid with current judging patterns only top teams like C/B or G/P can affort this kind of "exprerimenting" cause they will still get those GOEs for their names whatever and wherever they do.

Now I really know how it feels to be really outraged by scoring, it´s not so much Reitan/Majorov barely just not qualifying, but the Chinese team being pushed in front of so many teams and the judges looking for 5 minutes to find something to take them on so they can just barely be behind the Chinese...and then change scores last minute. Even Ted and Mark obviously calling out the score changing in last minute.

Rockerskating even said that he can´t figure out why the Swedes got something on their choreo step, apparently the Japanese team case is more obvious. Also I don´t know why the Swedes combo lift was downgraded from 4-4 to 4-2, but i´m not an expert so. I don´t know either why they downgraded Millas twizzle from lv. 4 to 2.

Anyways - the skating community is really crashing out about this on X now, and one thing that is positive is I didn´t know Milla and Nikolaj had so many fans. Also their skate on YouTube has gotten multiple comments that they were robbed. Rockerskating (Jackie Wong) even posted their FD on his IG-account now, which is a huge compliment because he is very selective about what he highlights.

They can still go to Milano because of the whole uncertaintiy about Finlands 2nd spot and Yukas citizenship. And then we still don´t know if Milla will get citizenship in time. I´m not so much pissed about them not directly qualifying today, but that the judges stole the moment from them and the Chinese team making it.

The first two placements here are were fair and deserved. I'm a fan of the Lithuanians and Harris/ Chan have improved. The Spanish and Hungarian teams have good basics and performed pretty well even if I didn't like their programs and they had small mistakes. I've never enjoyed the Chinese team. I've always thought they try to hide their lack of basics with tricks. The same was true here IMHO but they had fewer technical issues and, likely, got some home PCS advantage. I hope the Japanese and Swedish teams aren't too discouraged by this. They are both very strong.

Really? The Swedish team were the best so far.

I’m starting to think that the reason the scores are delayed is so they can tweak it so the Chinese athletes make it to the Olympics. First, the Cyprus lady and now the Swedish team sacrificed to keep the public happy.
No Zhang deserved that spot. She skated PB in the short and only messed one jump in the free

Honestly, if not for the dramatic posts here, i wouldn't have found anything out ofnthe ordinary. Just ice dance, heh. Chinese team had two really cool lifts. The Japanese didn't look as interesting as others starting from the Hungarians. I didn't feel like either Swedes or the Spanish had delivered something super memorable either. Swedes' sp was great though. I hope they keep progressing.

Some of the issues came with the delays in giving scores... Some fans in this thread felt like they were trying to keep the Chinese ahead and it sort of kept happening after each team.

I´m okay with reviews and strict panel as long as it´s sensible and they do it fairly across the teams. But it wasn´t like that in the free.

And they really took the time with the Swedes, 5 minutes is a long time in k&c, and Ted and Mark watching the live scoring and saying the scores changed twice just seems very strange.

Also it´s kinda insane that the Chinese got the same composition and presentation mark as the Swedes (and Japanese team) - like their program was not that well composed and seemed pretty messy and also the difference in connection and performance is big. I honestly think they possible did lower that mark as well because they simply couldn´t find enough to take them on technically besides the things they already slashed. R/M did have some points on them from the RD, so they really needed to bury them to get the Chinese above them. So the judges had to both 1) Nitpick and find something to take them on to lower the technical score 2) Give them the lowest PCS as possible despite them obviously having the better program.

Edit: They really took the time with the Japanese as well. They had to bury two teams after V/K to make that happen. And no way they could have done it with two tops teams because they were too far ahead.

I disagree with this. To me, all of them don't look the same.

Again, many of those choreographic elements look interesting and pretty diverse to me, but I agree that probably there should be at least one less of those elements, the GOE on them should be lower and they shouldn't be such a large part of the technical score.

I actually weirdly agree with you. I thought the Chinese team were good here and I can see why they overtook the Swedes. I love the Swedes and it’s a shame they didn’t get a spot but I thought the Chinese slightly edged them.
