2025 Grand Prix de France Rhythm Dance

Wow that’s a decent lead for F/G. Very happy the Lithuanians are in 2nd - did not predict that. Really did not expect the Italians to be 5th but I think the order placement is correct. Charlene and Marco look quite laboured in their movements compared to the others and their choreo wasn’t that interesting. They could still def move up depending on what their FD is like though.

Honestly, I’m not a fan of the Italians and I find this program just doesn’t suit them. Which is odd since they probably did dance to this song when they were kids in the 90s
It's not odd, they need something lyrical, not disco, they're not made for that, unlike the English pair..

I think it is clear that the panel really favored a certain coaching team here. But, it is what it is. I like the Italians but they may have hurt themselves by not putting their programs out earlier this season and getting techincal feedback.
This could be it; they should have tested the waters. I think the panel was looking for a more sophisticated programme, from such a high-calibre team. It almost seems beneath them, but I get the frustration, though; they probably just felt cornered by the rules this year. Marco was having none of it.

I strongly suspect the panel considered "show me the meaning" not upbeat enough and not fitting with the theme. Not enough so to give a deduction, but enough to ding PCS?
Just reviewed the PDFs.
3 judges called music violation.
PSt on this music got very low GOE (not just the turns).

Very simply the judges didn't think the music fit the theme, and for this they were ranked.

I think that's a bit easy to say when most of the top teams are at IAM :)
Agree - you can’t just always say it’s rigged for one coaching stable. The truth of the matter is that the teams in IAM are in a super competitive environment so that is naturally going to make them all up their game. Nadiia Bashynska just started training in London IAM and she said in her vlog that the training environment and approach to training is so good. So clearly it works and that’s why they have so many successful teams, not because every competition is apparently rigged…

having good programs and being good ice dancers are two things . Unless Diana and Gleb have gone to deep edges and body extension boot camp this summer, I don't see how they could score higher than most of the top ten teams at world last year.
Smolkin's edges improved. Not sure if Davis did, but they legit looked good after some horrendous programs which included F-B/C, I am sorry to say. It just was one bad choice after another until they came out. In some cases, it was a duplicate of a bad choice. I don't know what got G/F, but they didn’t drop just below D/S, but below all other teams they shouldnhave been competitive with and that's in a year when Oly is in Italy. There must have been a profound technical reason.

The only good thing about this ice dance event is that FG lead should be enough to beat FBC. And FBC probably expected a gold medal at home soil, so that is something. I´m not sure how the podium is going to turn out now. I expected GF to be higher, but I´m afraid FBC will be ahead of them, and i´m afraid R/A might drop behind them as well. But let´s see.

Unfortunately the music. Of course PSt level didn't help. The good news is should be easy fix, find a more upbeat backstreet boys song, change some movements around and bam. The bad news it's a barrier to getting to the GPF.

Some strange results for me…
The Italians should rank higher imo and I do not understand why Lilah and Lewis are first.
Because this season RD matched what the British always do. What a serendipity. They basically skated their entire body of work for this and last season. The other teams should have just asked themselves what would the Brits chose for their music? That's what judges meant in their description. And our ears would have been better for it.

His skating was always better than hers.
Again, programs are one thing... but the skating is something else. I mean, just think about single skating. You can have terrible programs but if the skaters land all the jumps, they will win. In ice dance, you need to nail your turns and steps, which is the specialty of the Italians.

I agree that the shocking fact is that it's not just the Georgians edging them but everyone else and especially Fear Gibson by a huge margin.

The scoresheets reveal two things. Yes, they lost points on TES but they also lost points on PCS. So, it's not just technical like messing up the pattern steps or the twizzles. The judges also didn't like them.

I do see now how the Charlene/Marco program went flat during the “Show Me the Meaning of Being Lonely” section. Doesn’t exactly scream ‘90s dance party, even though they tried to speed up the tempo of the song, it sounded and felt strange. It’s surprising that Barbra signed off on that, but these two did have a longer off season going into this season and didn’t skate a challenger, so they are clearly behind where they normally are at this time.

I thought it was better than other teams' music, but what do I know? Maybe the judges need choke-and-construction zone sounds.

I don't think the results are strange, to be honest. For a new team, FB/C, the technical requirements of the RD will always make it the more difficult program. Like all new teams, there is going to be a learning curve. They had something even more interesting for the RD and the very judges, nixed that. I'm open to what they're selling and hope they do much better in the FD. Great place to start.
